DI am talking about general installation. And it would be better to have it packaged as an rpm if it goes on the image

Ano real reason,
/usr/local doesn't work well because nix does not follow FHSDthis is custom compiled nix. The output dir is pretty much like what you would see in /usr. there is a bin, a share, a lib, and even an etc directory

BI think I was wrong about the mirror dying. I didn’t realize the “releases” path part was parameterized and could be replaced with developement. The latter directory seems to have disappeared on several mirrors
