JI can't speak for Winwing at all, but I can say the MCGU has been tried and tested and proven to be solid, as it has been around for some years now. Orion 2 came out fairly recently iirc.
PI think technically the WW F-16EX has more HATs or button inputs if you have the extension pack thing on it, like Jon I don't own the WW I have the MCGU on a 200mm curved extension, tbh that's probably the heaviest I'd go with a 200mm extension on the Rhino as the weight of the mcgu does give a fair bit of leverage, I use the vkb Kg12v2 grip for warbirds & ga flying & it feels better for those, the mcgu I use for heli's & anything more modern than warbirds, don't get me wrong it feels awesome on the Rhino I usually only have the spring force low when flying modern aircraft & it's still enough, I just personally wouldn't want heavier than the mcgu.
NCan’t speak on the WinWing at all either, I haven’t tried it. If the Orion is of equal super high quality, it would only come down to the ergonomics
GThat's great, you pretty much nailed the way I want to use . I'm also planning to use Rhino with a 200mm extension, I was inclined first to go for Virpil as I could later on 3d print some grips, such as the P-51 and KG12/13C, but personally I prefer a metal grip

But yes the Rhino is available now to order, you'll get a Serial Number &go in the wait list, it's basically just Walmis powering through all of this alone, software, production etc. Your other option is to order a motor a electronics kit & DIY, there are heaps of resources getting around to help, all the ppl with green names are kit owners & red names are Rhino base owners fyi. The kits give you motor options to go upto ~24Nm torque, the Rhino base is 9Nm & that's already enough for most.

The vpforce telemetry app is awesome, it's only supporting DCS right now, but MSFS2020 is being worked on too, as msfs has no native ffb support & the current 3rd party options aren't great. Also walmis offers adapters for VKB (passthrough to VKB BlackBox) & Winwing, the Rhino supports Virpil & Thrustmaster too without adapters.

MWhen I mounted my BK Mini (same exciter as Gamer) like this I could barely feel it. It was weak af till I used the side flange on an 'amplification arm' to mimick how it works on the Gamer2. I've seen people use a 15/16 impact socket bolted to a t-slot to mount the Gamer2 to, which would also work for the one you have. Without having any ability to move (ie hard mounted to the frame by its bottom flange) it reduced the impact almost to nothing. I eventually upgraded to a Clark TST209 and it's way more powerful even off the same 100w amp I have

NAt least WinWing did produce a more consumer-level force sensing stick recently, so I guess they aren’t stagnant or anything
SBack in the days when DCS P-51 was developed ED’s lead engineer ”YoYo” mentioned in some interview that MSFFB2 is the stick that he uses and if my memory serves correctly also recommends flying DCS with. So ED should be very well aware of FFB benefits. At least if YoYo still works there. My understanding is that this is the reason why DCS FFB implementation is quite good to begin with but it is developed with much weaker FFB sticks in mind.
PI have been trying to whip up support from the DCS crew for years, encouraging them to implement the same standard across all their aircraft, and supply a good library for 3rd parties, as you said, some are quite good, and others are sadly dire, it has however always fallen on deaf ears sadly.
ADo you think side flange to an extrusion at the lower back of the seat would work? Or would one need a separate extrusion sticking out from that to make a lever arm?

MPutting it on it's own angle like dude did would be slightly stronger as it increases the moment arm of movement and adds a 'flex zone' but even just using a socket as s post directly on the t-slot to utilize the off-axis mount would be much stronger than using the base flange

DWell, the buttons are connected to the blackbox, and that is connected to PC, this has nothing to do with VPForce RHINO
DBest to speak with other VKB folks on the hotas or vkb discord to troubleshoot
DFirst I would check is number of peripherals connected, IL-2 can spit the dummy if the list of devices is too long or messed up
DIf the buttons are being registed in the VKB software, then its likely IL-2 issue as mentioned above (list of devices)
