Jbut I use a tool called chezmoi that just shoves my entire ~ in git and then it just handles everything, there's a bunch of dotfile managers out there, I just picked one and went with it

OIf not, Go and/or Python would definitely be worth learning, Go especially because it's common in the container space
OEventually you could learn Rust too 
Dthe one I created is more of a dotfile rollback utility than having it synchronizing across machines. I think it may be possible to have chezmoi manage the git stuff while dfrab manages the profiles and rollbacks.
