You're looking at the Pages docs, not the workers docs, the workers docs are here:

You need to use wrangler because d1 has a shim that it needs wrangler to inject to work (i.e it's not exactly a normal binding, I believe that is planned to go away when it goes GA)

Most bindings aren’t stringifiable, or at least they don’t look right. Basically, don’t console.log them, just try using them
