Leather Jacket w/ slim profile and full-zip turtle neck
I just lost this beloved yet cheap jacket I had for ~13 years: https://poshmark.com/listing/Carbon-Mens-Faux-Leather-Zip-Up-Jacket-Brown-Size-Medium-63f0db8481078a965ad77e77
This thing was awesome as a light jacket because I could wear it on its own or combine it with a hoodie underneath and it looked great either way. Faux leather meant it wasn't too hot or heavy, plus with the hoodie ( + especially a full zip of the neck), I could be comfortable and look great down to freezing temps. Looked awesome with a scarf, too! Really great jacket, especially for the $70 or whatever I paid back in 2010.
Now I have more money than I did back then, so I'm willing to spend to get something better as long as it has this same neck style. However, MA-1 style jackets usually have no real collar, certainly nothing like this awesome full-zip turtle neck thing.
Also I have a pretty slim profile at 6ft, ~150lbs, with arms a couple inches longer than you'd expect, so I don't want anything heavy or baggy, though MA-1s often have that look.
Best I've found is something like this: https://www.carbon2cobalt.com/Mens-Seasoned-Leather-Jacket-118057?quantity=1&color=93&size=1
My hesitations with this one are that the sleeves look short and the outer pockets look small. I might order it and plan to return if the small size arms aren't long enough -- unless I can find something else. Any suggestions on where else to look?

Alright I'm going to start responding to my own question because no one else will
This site looks interesting since they have a million styles and will make them custom to fit, though it's all top grain and I'd rather pay extra to get full grain.

Dunno what quality is like. They say it's hand-made, but that doesn't mean much...

Do not buy this dropshipped garbage
lol fair -- I know very little about fashion and this seemed too good to be true
$1000+
I'd need some justification for something more than $1k but I could consider it
obviously less is better
It really is. For leather, anything under 500 or so new is not worth it
yeah that's my understanding from my dive into goodyear welted shoes
even there I'm "cheap" and like my $300 Allen Edmonds

M65 / Suede Field Jacket - Custom and Made to Order
The classic field jacket is modernized. With high-quality lamb suede, take this look out of the wild and into the city. Every jacket is hand-crafted. Custom and made to order. Made to measure option available.
I bet they'd replace the bottom two flat pockets with angled zippers if you asked

Harrington - Custom and Made to Order
The Harrington is a timeless classic. Ours is updated with a modern fit and high-quality materials including MOP buttons, YKK zipper, and lamb suede. Come with a cotton tartan lining. Every jacket is hand-crafted. Custom and made to order. Made to measure option available.
Although the Harrington looks closer to your OP pic
I'm sure they could add chest pockets
yeah the Harrington looks good! I don't like suede, and the chest pockets on the top one look too big for my elf-frame if they're added to the Harrington
but otherwise we're on the right track!
If you don't want leather, the OG Harrington is a Baracuta G9
Not liking suede is no problem, they'll make it out of any of their Leathers

nice, thank you
Bombers don’t have collars, you’re looking for a blouson or harrington
great keywords, thank you!!
any suggestions on a tapered fit? Seems like those styles are straighter. I know the original one I had was more blouson-style, but I think I want to keep the neck and side pocket style while cutting in the sides a bit to look more like the leathercult one I posted above
this random google images find looks awesome
would you consider going to a customer maker? For example, Johnson Leathers takes custom design requests and the team there can advise the customer if a feature or cut request is a good idea or not
It might be a bit of a stretch style-wise but the american designer Rick Owens makes tons of slim, high-necked leather jackets than can be had for under 1k
Your best bet is buying secondhand though
idk if you mean turtleneck as in ribbing along the collar or just a high collar but the fencing-jacket style of leather often features a higher neck
I was just looking at custom makers actually. Would love to talk to someone in person and describe everything/ask questions so I was looking up folks in Austin TX where I live, not much luck yet
Interesting, I'll take a look
This is one of his, for reference
yeah high neck geo would be so good
Higher neck yeah, doesn't necessarily have to be ribbed. I did like how the ribbed neck fell into a collar when it was unzipped

I mean just perfect tbh
it's rick but it's a trad color
it's the right neck compared to your original reference
(if it's the right size)

here's the same(ish) jacket on me, unzipped as well
Oh wow! If only it were darker
you can always dye darker
for $20-30
leather dyeing (darker) is so ezpz
Good point. I don't like the hammered leather on that one either, but I'll keep in mind the dyeing
These jackets come in many different leathers and colors with variations in how high the neck goes, with or without shearling, ribbed cuffs, etc
at 6ft 150 with long arms you kind of already fit the body type that his designs are geared towards
Yeah I tend to look better in designer stuff it seems because I have that elf model body. Sucks for fast/cheap fashion but I'm definitely not complaining 😆
I had a beautiful one I sold last year for a steal
it went for $400 gently used to give you a sense of price

the lining can be junky but the outer is gonna be great
this looks incredible, why did you sell it?
I think Sal got another similar one
I had three rick leathers at one point, sold down to just this one
I'm probably the third owner, I've had it since 2017 and it's from 2009
it was a little small
plus the leather was a bit stiff, it's almost better not to go for the thickest juiciest version if you value like comfort
I love my bauhaus jacket though, won't be giving that up for some time

would prefer dark brown so I'm still looking around a bit more
The measurements between the two are actually very similar
this is for the brown one I just posted
alright, we're narrowing down for sure, thanks so much for your help so far, folks! Bed time for now, but the search continues tomorrow.

off topic but Solovairs are goodyear welted, made i nthe UK, and well under that
Technically Goodyear welted, but practically very difficult to resole (the main benefit) because the plastic is melted to the welt. Same as Dr Martens.
Different construction to docs, and very easily resoled by Solovair themselves

stridewise.com
Dr. Martens vs Solovair - The Great British Boot Off - stridewise.com
It's a battle of the British boot brands. Solovair used to make Dr. Martens until they were forced to go solo, so who comes out on top now?
I'm not really sure that disagrees and it seems to have misread the solovair website.
"Technically" but not really by most cobblers except by the original manufacturer, and skips over the fact that solovair is also melted/heat bonded together - it says so on their (solovair) website.
Some people can/will resole docs too, but it's a very limited field. Practically speaking not something most people will do.
That's not say they're not nice boots and worth the small upcharge from docs but the GYW thing is oversold with them.
Docs are a LOT harder to resole, and practically speaking, you're unlikely to be able to do it more than once. I've had Solovairs resoled a few times with no issue, and the cost to get it done at the factory is cheaper than getting most other goodyear welted boots resoled 🤷♂️
You know solovair just so what most people who repair docs do right? They cut the existing sole off the welt and glue/bond a new one on. It says so on their website.
