Help me buy something other than Banana Republic 😬
Down to try anything as long as each piece issn't more than $200 or so. I really like how BR's clothes fit me, I'm short and skinny. Tried Bonobos polos and chinos a bit ago. The construction seemed worse than BR's non-factory line. The polos were 1-2 inches longer for their size and were very boxy on me, and the slim chinos were very puffy on me through the thighs. I typically wear slim fit S or regular fit XS shirts, and 29/30 slim fit pants.

why do you feel the need to branch out if it fits you, hits your price point, and you like the clothes?
Uniqlo, peter manning, ash and erie
How tall are you?
What your style mostly consist of?
Because there's a limited number of their styles that I would wear, and I'd like to have a wider variety of styles and colors.
It's easier to reccomend stuff if you have a little more direction, what are some things youre interested, some styles you like but haven't tried yet, pieces you're after etc
5'5. Honestly I usually wear polos, chinos, and jeans during the summer. Occasionally I'll wear shorts as well but I don't go to far from that during the warmer months.
Do you do Uniqlo? At least they have variety
I'm trying to replace a lot of older or lower quality clothes with some pieces that I can keep for longer. I've been looking at some of the Kent Wang stuff, but they're sold out pretty often. I like some of the Tood Snyder styles I've seen.
I sorta wear whatever during summer
I mostly buy for falls
I've had some of their stuff before. Pants never fit me well, shirts were okay but I'd rather buy something a little more premium.
I have better clothes for winter, apart from pants. Plus I live in the southern US and it will be in the 80s until October.
Spier and mackay is the easy rec
Black ficus for more casual
Vintage is good for getting higher quality for not that much money if you know what you’re looking for
At your height, and fit
If u wanna venture out i prob seek japanese brands
Beams plus 🤔
The only issue is pricing pretty high state side. There is a lot of sale going on though, on endclothing, or stockists. You can also proxy from japan as they have typical 70% sale sometimes
Look through nomanwalksalone and just see what you like
How is the quality for Spier and Mackay? As far as the chinos I'm looking for something more on the casual side

Here’s the brand thread, I think quality for price is quite high
Just going through nomanwalksalone I haven't seen anything that particularly interests me. Most of their stuff seems too styled for me, and they only had 2 short sleeved polo shirts.
And as far as Spier, the main thing I want to avoid is having to buy more clothes in like a year or two because the materiels are subpar.
Might as well hit my favorite brand sehkelly
Okay maybe I should just buy more BR
just know u are getting scammed unless u have a 50% discount
cause everything goes down to 50% discount once every couple of months
based on holidays etc
Yeah that's what I do
yea
I'm just trying to find high quality basic stuff. I don't want my clothes to be super styled.
one of my friend just doom scrolls ssense til they see something they like
For basic polo shirts and casual chinos?
oh nvm
😂
i forgot the original prompt
my b

close enough to chinos
🍋🤖
kapital webshop might be good for doom scrolling too
This
Man even for cheaper
Nike and Adidas have some cool silhouettes that are not so branded
I will be wearing this for work too
What is your work?
I work in local government.
Look into Ed Hardy
based
Alex Mill may be up your alley then, the few things I got from them I was happy with – definitely a price tier up from BR though
Try out cos
Be normal please
Spier and mackay is higher quality than BR, read the thread for more info
A little too streetwear for me.
Closer, but the pants are too relaxed and I'm not a fan of slub cotton for polos. Pique is fine, performance is fine, sweater polos are fine.
Adidas x Hamcus collab is wild
Ooh I haven’t seen this b4
I need the pants
Todd Snyder is designed for people who like BR/JCrew but for some reason want to pay more for "quality".
you might like taylor stitch or asket
If you want high quality basics try Lady White Co
Theyre running a sale on polos right now
Asket is the closest to what I'm looking for style wise, just wish they had more interesting colors. Taylor Stitch is a bit too ourdoorsy/rugged wear for me.
Their designs are a bit to fashion forward for me.
This is a bit isn't it.
I've wondered that about half of the people answering.
"too fashion forward"
There's at least a few people in here pulling your leg for sure, but I struggle to see how plain t-shirts are too fashion forward.
I'm not looking for tshirts fam, polos and chinos.
Same point
Now look at the measurements for the chest width of those shirts.
Why can'y you buy those at BR? I'm so confused about what you want
idk try J Crew, they're owned by the same company anyway iirc or the Gap
How is cos too streetwear
When I say fashion forward I mean this kind of on trend wide/looser sizing
the pants
Be specific then and people can help more.
WHY DON'T YOU LIKE BR?
It's not interesting enough, but other stuff can't be too interesting.
What is streetwear about these pants. Point out specifics
At this point just go to j crew and offer them twice their retail value because that’s clearly what you’re looking for
I'm literally wearing a BR shirt right now. Where are you getting that I don't like them?
Following to see how Cos is too streetwear
Just keep buying BR if you're happy with it then?
Or Todd Snyder. Or other brands that meet your requirements.
The best way to buy something other than banana republic is to go to any website other than bananarepublic.com and buy something
Taylor stitch?
We already recommended like every type
Asked and answered
Buck Mason???
Can you post your BR fits? Maybe it's all in your head
Time travel back to 2010 I guess for every direct to consumer fashion start up
I think its becoming clear that you want us to conjure a brand thats exactly like banana republic out of thin air
I had ChatGPT scrape this thread and it recommended BR so idk what you want
I dont think we can help you
GAP?
I think they are literally Banana Republic
Yes
I'm literally just asking for very good quality basic polo shirts and casual-ish chinos that are slim fitting.
Isn't that BR lol
That’s a shame
Why deviate from BR if you're happy with em
Sunspel?
Because I would like to not be stuck with whatever colors or materials that BR decides to offer.
Have you considered learning to sew
seems like you're not willing to deviate at all but not put in the work to look into brands yourself
So you want BR in more colors?
You can diy dye stuff yourself
BR+
👏 Todd 👏 Snyder 👏

BUCK MASON
TODD SNYDER
Unfortunately if you’re looking for slim fit clothing, there’s just way less options as non-mall brands have moved away from it. Sunspel, Buck Mason, and Past season Todd will have options

The issue is that it's super hard to find sizing that fits me well and I just don't have time to buy something from all of the brands I may like to test the quality.
Have you thought about walking around in just boxer briefs like the default character in a video game
You are moving the goalposts
Now it’s about sizing?
T-posing every time you stop walking? Give it a think
they're polo shirts dude. Quality does not matter
It's always been about sizing. That's literally in the first sentence of my post.
What is your job
This is like the ur-advice thread
What do you do for work
It's actually a lie
Down to try anything as long as each piece issn't more than $200 or so.
okay this is getting a little off-topic lol
it'd honestly be easier to buy and return even if it's a bit time consuming
Down to try BANANA REPUBLIC and only BANANA REPUBLIC
Do what I've done -- Get a seam ripper and some muslin. Draft a pattern from the garm you like onto heavy cardstock from the garm you seam ripped. Make a note of the allowances and such on the pattern. Cut the pattern out and practice with the muslin on making the garm until you've got an acceptable version in muslin. From there, fly to a city like NYC and talk to some jobbers in the fashion district. Determine how much yardage you need for a particular piece. Test wash the fabric to determine the shrink vertically and horizontally. Wash again to ensure no extra shrink. Once you've gotten that out, buy the fabric and bring it home. Wash the fabric and dry it multiple times. Press the fabric until smooth. Use this fabric to create your garm in the same way you did the muslin. Boom, you've now got an unlimited choice in fabric
it's really stinkin simple
If you’re sitting at a computer you are not going to wear a polo out anytime soon so it doesn’t matter
You're getting pushback because you're not working with people giving free advice
Okay now keep reading.. what does it say next.
That's literally in the first sentence of my post.
I'm not working with the people giving advice because they're not reading.
You can’t be this annoying about clothing and also be an asshole when people try and help
Pick one or neither
If you are a professional golfer maybe you will go through a polo
you want more styles but you don't want to be styled
Are you willing to tailor your polo
My guy
You're not trying
and you want more colors but you're not willing to try the actual clothing on
Might address the length and billowiness you don't like with some of these brands
I gave you 5 options that fall directly into your requirements.
Go to a mall and try on all of the polos that every store sells and then buy the ones you like
Ask on r/malefashionadvice I hear that place is great
we're not gonna know which garments fit you best even if you give us your exact measurements lol
Yes, BM, PS, Sunpel are fine. It's hard to respond to every message when everyone online is responding to me at one time.
Well there ya go
Ok great
Thread over
Mission complete, good work everybody
Okay jake last thought
One more chance
?
Im giving jake one more comment then im locking the thread
Go ahead jake
No?
Okay glad we could help
I'm glad that after a day of shitposting we got back to me looking at buying the brands I mentioned yesterday. Thanks, it's been an honor. I hope you all have enjoyed this as much as I have.
Have you heard of uniqlo
