Right now the 500 MB is a global limit. I believe the blog post had 1GB for workers paid so they are probably working their way up

I want to use it for production enviroment. I have a very small amount of data (maybe 200MB) with a pretty simple scheme with one table. I know D1 current state is not recommended for production environment, but for my case do you think it would be ok?

It might parse it due to it being wrangler but you need to pass binding in order for them to work locally

gotcha, I just started playing with d1 and wrangler and there are things that aren't trivial or well explained.. most of the wrangler d1wrangler d1 commands seems to be only for remote, not local e.g.

...but it seems possible to apply migrations to local d1
very cool thing though, just requires a lot of trial and error to see what works

After query, user_ id is a text type, but the content stored in the database has become a numerical type, and the stored code is the same as before. The old version of the database is normal

Does D1 support transaction?

I’m trying build a web app with next-on-pages, D1 and drizzle-orm.

Drizzle transaction API seems to be working fine for local development. However, it fails on production and preview deployments with the following error “Error: D1_Error: Error: not authorized”

This doesn’t looks like a binding issue as all other non-transaction calls to D1 works without any errors.

The team mentioned possible plans to expose a transaction API, but not soon. Haven’t tried, but can’t you just add multiple commands in the same statement?

It’s not practical to write all commands in a single statement. Here’s a simple snippet of creating and org and adding a admin to it.

The only option is to use OUPUT INTO, however the above two statements are not the full logic, it involves even more inserts to multiple other tables.

Writing them all into one statement will make it hard to debug or maintain.

@nora8008 Looks like batching only execute array of statements, it can be useful for bulk writes.

From the docs, it doesn’t looks like it returns any values from previous statements in the batch array.

In my case, I’m trying to create an org and adding a member to it, to create a member row, I need to know the org id, which only returns from previous steps

@alphadog_ Yes, for this sample code snippet, I’m generating the id. However I mentioned in my early message that it’s a small part of the logic.

The full org creation logic involves creation of other tables which are using incremental ids. Which are non-deterministic.

I think nora means that you could coordinate the state of a transaction yourself by utilising an additional column. Let's say you have two batch statements and the 2nd goes wrong, you have a way to identify till how far your unit of work has executed. But I fully agree that it would be a great DX improvement if we could have a transaction API, but it is (as far as I know) not actively worked on. They are adding other core functionality first. Keep in mind it is in alpha and clearly states that it is not intended for production usage.

I think for now, I’ll have to sacrifice the non-deterministic id part. That seems to be only option till the team implements js transaction api

I am not too sure if this is what Nora meant, but in a microservice architecture they have something called the "Saga pattern" (https://microservices.io/patterns/data/saga.html) where you coordinate a distrubuted transaction yourself. It boils down to having some kind of statemachine where you are responsible for rolling back changes along the way. You could apply a similar (simplified) approach in your app, but imo it's not worth the complexity, especially considering you have everything in one database. I would indeed avoid using auto incementing ids or use another database that integrates well with cloudflare workers (see https://developers.cloudflare.com/workers/databases/connecting-to-databases/)

A common recommendation is to use Planetscale as an interim solution until D1 matures.

It's an alpha, and whilst its unlikely for there to be something like unrecoverable data loss, or extended downtimes, they can happen. The size of your data isn't particularly relevant unless you're likely to breach the new limit they just pushed out.

Can you easily re-create your data? How much data can you afford to lose before it causes an issue? Can your application operate with a downtime outside of your control?
