ubuntu 23.04. GTX 1060 (6gb), i7 7th gen. Epic game.
Game boots into the launcher, but launching the remasters of the game doesnt work, black window opens, then closes. launcher hangs

I went back to check this again. The box with the Launch Options only appears after pressing play for me, then stays for subsequent launches. My game is launching from GOG, are you launching from Epic? If so, I'll give that a try and see if I reproduce it
After installing the Epic version, I was not able to replicate it. The Gearbox logo was a little stuttery, but the game loads into gameplay and plays the cutscenes just fine
do you have ~/Documents/My Games/Homeworld Remastered/ created? It may be having trouble with that? I don't know

on this same prefix try installing d3dx9_43, d3dcompiler_47, and dotnet40 from winetricks, one at a time in that order
after each one, try booting it up to see if it is fixed
if it asks you to install mono, make sure to install it
