What happened that they're no longer your favorite or what brands continue to be your favorite over your fashion journey?

Probably Nike, used to love their footwear but as time goes on there's not really a shoe other than the J1 I want to wear from them anymore. Most of them were uncomfortable and cheap feeling which have mattered to me more and more with age
Haider ackermann. The slouchy lazy luxury thing really had a grip on me. I had already kinda moved on to more structured 70s/dries stuff by the time his brand went under, but it certainly didnt help that it did. By now it seems like the second-hand well has really dried up as well. When my favorite boots finally kick the dust im not sure what i’ll replace em with.
I used to love Urban Outfitters so much. I think more for the other brands they stocked than their own clothing, but long gone are the days when I'd drop a few hundred a year there on levi's and floral tees.
In college my fav brand was urban outfitters so I carry a lot of it over. I still browse sometimes on their 40% off sales because sometimes they have insane deals like yuketens for $150 or stussy for dirt cheap (back in the day). I got my gramicci pants there for $40 too which is good. For designer, I used to really like opening ceremony. And of course as a resident of 2016, I wore Gustin, Naked and Famous, and APC a LOT
haha hell yeah
For me, i used to love our legacy during that time where every mid-priced menswear brands did the same thing. our legacy i feel did that the best, but over time it got its own identity and it just strayed from what was moving towards. ive liked some recent pieces though, but its never on the must buy list like it used to be. gitman vintage i used to also like but at a certain point the kinda shoddy cuts and the slow move to catch up to current trends made it just fall from my brand list
eg has continued to be one of my favorites. they have their own thing going on and the cuts change at the same time i change my preferences so its perfect.
Omg I had a phase where I wanted gitman vintage, Portuguese flannel, corridor and wax London even though none of my wardrobe supported that
Same lol
Many brands I thought a lot about but never got
I’m actually super surprised how relevant acne has managed to stay
gitman had some really fun shirts over the years, but a lot just made me go hmm
acne is always on top of it
had to go above and beyond to make people want a brand called acne
The amount of Patagonia I used to have…
Another brand I used to absolutely lust over but never really think about anymore is Rosen. This fit lived rent free for long enough that I strongly considered pulling the trigger before realizing my first suit probably shouldn't have a cutaway jacket. Their product and styling photos look really good but after handling some of their stuff it just didn't quite live up to my expectations, plus their price increases and pivot into a mainly techwear focus kind of turned me off when the brands that not so subtly inspire their more avantgarde stuff are at a similar price secondhand.
omg totally forgot about Rosen
went from selling curated designer clothes then her own brand
I was about to say that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time
I do think the mall brands people used to be funnel them to where they’re at rn. Like I can tell if someone used to shop at j crew or urban or Uniqlo
the brand that did it for me was club monaco
walked into mall of america and went from store to store and that was the only one where i was like, i really want this
going to guess you were an urban person Charli
what gave it away
Pastel pink reverse weave type beat
I think it was actually called peach but you know the one

I still have one of those lmao
have 1 or 2 reverse weaves still, they’re solid
I used to like J.Crew. I still do, but I used to too
used to wear a lot of H&M. what happened was that I stopped being very underweight and therefore didn't fit any of my old stuff anymore and that their quality dipped while prices increased (at least that's how I've perceived it) and I started to thrift and afford more expensive stuff
me too, and they’re no longer owned by the ralph lauren company + their products are seeing serious material decline
oof that sucks to hear
i was so surprised when at the time i found out they were owned by ralph lauren
C&A, for someone who doesn't usually have a lot to spend, the ideal choice. But the past year or two I've found their quality dwindle. Mainly in the pants section as they seem to fade and rip quite easily
closest answer is wolf vs goat tbh
i got sold the quality basics narrative but the cuts suck and the logicistics are consistently a mess
banana republic as another early-mfa regret
but my actual favorite is and always has been uniqlo rest of my wardrobe is a sample platter
the whole model of wolf vs goat confused me bc they had that thing of pay like $100 once and get 50% everything off
i think he genuinely believes in it but that honestly made no fucking sense
did want one of the bamboo shirts though
i like my bamboo tee for sure
it's a purple tiedye that i'd wear at a rave or something or to sleep lmao
but i felt like i got baited
now i hear he lives in italy? like what help the logistics
I was turned off from WvG when there was this preorder which was delayed over two years or something ridiculous (might have been only one year+, i dont recall exactly), during which time other preorders came up and were delivered for what seemed like the same item. To be fair, the owner was extremely transparent and refunded anyones order without hesitation, but it made me realize how silly the model was
phew shouldve been refunded after 2 months max
Two
I used to love American Apparel 😭
I wanna hear the pipeline analysis
Urban outfitters to avant garde or trendy streetwear, Uniqlo to workwear streetwear or ESSENTIALShead, J Crew to Ivy or Trad
my exact highschool to college pipeline was: UO > jcrew > Uniqlo lol. only because uniqlo came stateside by the time i was finishing up college and there wasn’t an online presence until i started working
I'm still in my Uniqlo pipeline rn
😔
Uu this year was cool
So glad I never got tricked into buying j crew beyond just memeshots
Johnny Cupcakes
there’s still time to buy jcrew!!
I guess I went a bit of an unusual route, from H&M skinny fit everything to Uniqlo and "Essentials" to Ivy
I'm in my Japan brand phrase rn
But I feel like I'm never gonna have more than a smidgen of stuff from a brand other than Uniqlo as a basis
I used to do two things: outdoors brands (North Face, Patagonia, and less famous ones) and store brands/cheap mall brands (Target, American Apparel). North Face already was a fashion brand losing its outdoors soul ages ago but I feel like it's somehow even worse in the TikTok gorp era lol.
I still want some stuff from Supreme. Most of it is over a decade old by now. After they changed their quality in 2015-16 I haven’t really followed the drops. I just pay resale if I really want it.
I have owned many pairs of Ecco shoes.
Used to love AG jeans.
I used to love Supreme, I still do, but I used to too
Uniqlo and Patagonia used to be favorites. They still are, but they used to be too. 😀
I feel most of the stuff I want from them is stuff I couldn’t afford when it came out.
Lol...at the same time
I couldn’t justify $600 as a 13yo.
But I can justify $900 now.
I just want the crowbar for my shop.
I have almost every item from the 2011 playboy drop other than the varsity
Hard to justify slp teddy prices for a supreme varsity
And finding size S or M stuff is getting harder and harder as the years pass
I feel like I had a very brief infatuation with J Crew that didn't last.
Mostly stuck to banana republic with some j crew sprinkled in.
Actually, does anyone remember jackthreads? I shopped on there a bit when I was in college
Denver Hayes stretch fit jeans
Uniqlo for sure. I remember earlier when they were expanding internationally their pima tees were solid. Their recent stuff is nowhere near as thick or comfortable after being worn in and feel flimsy by comparison. Some of the U line is alright for basics but most of their stuff just feels meh now.
I’ve since moved on to Muji but can start to see some changes there too.
diesel, chrome hearts, fred perry, naked & famous, scotch & soda, jack spade
Urban Outfitters and American Apparel rocked so hard like 10+ years ago lol 😭 can still find good things onsale at UO sometimes as mentioned above. The basic colored American Apparel hoodies were the coolest thing ever in like 2011 haha. I used to love The Hundreds (my entry into streetwear) and Supreme (still do) but i buy very different items from Supreme than i did in 2015 🤡
like this was truly peak fashion to me in 2011 😂
White contrast zipper sweater
the coolest kids at my high school dressed like this ^
Justin Long core
Rip AA. They were the only mall store that fit right.
LA apparel never lived up to it.
my first go around in menswear back in the sufu days i was big into patrik ervell, robert geller and wings + horns. none of those exist anymore tho lol
Omg I loves Patrik ervell
The shirts fit weird but loved it anyways
Always wanted a pocket sweater
I loved Wings + Horns back in the day. Reigning Champ is still around so keep praying for a reboot
and the pants had those silk-lined waistbands so you had to hope you didn't have a big dinner
Oh yeah! Forgot about that. Kinda wish he came back though like Dana Lee Brown did
He’s head of design at COS which makes a lot of sense actually.
he used to head vince, but much happier that hes with COS. mostly loved his prints and designs and cos is mainy minimal so kind of a bummer there
actually, now that i look through, most of COS looks like old Ervell pieces lool
I loved W+H too! Only time in my life that I got into something like a month before it went out of business, including getting a great limited-run jacket from their final, final sale 😦
As a close follower of Reigning Champ, I see they are clearly stepping into that territory — first with 1x1 slub henleys (the W+H eternal offering), and now with more almost office gear — cardigans, and dress shirts!?
but I think the head designer from W+H moved to HAVEN, also based in Canada.
had no idea haven started making clothes
they’ve been doing it for awhile and they make some seriously cool stuff
looked through and very cool, nice fabrics
so kinda weird but he's back at CYC now
which might explain why Reigning Champ is broadening back out a bit
I donno if we'll see W+H back though, might be some weirdness now that they're owned by Aritzia
