not recommended as there are a lot of issues that can come from it (and it is not a supported usecase). it can work fine for just testing (like i did to begin with to prep and migrate things since my system is kinda weirdly configured) the reason is that for external ssds, the controller for the enclosure has to be good, the usb controller for the mobo has to be good, the cable has to be good and the ssd has to be decent too.. so it may work or it may not work properly
steam-patch is already in bazzite but it does not handle input, that is handled by handygccs as that wont break from random steam updates as you can see at https://github.com/ublue-os/bazzite#custom-packages it is listed there

will just say this before heading to bed, i had the same issue on 38, its an upstream bug with bluez to my understanding and its fixed in 39 so as long you have rebased to :39 or :latest it might be fixed for you if its the same issue, gives you at least something to try if you are still on the :38 image anyways goodnight.
