Rethink DNS is both a stub and a recursive resolver-- sky.rethinkdns.com forwards user requests to another recursive resolver like Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1, but does so in a way that doesn't leak the identity of the client (user). Think of it like a proxy resolver that sits in-between a recursive resolver and you, the user.

max.rethinkdns.com, which runs on fly.io is a recursive resolver and does not forward queries, but resolves DNS answers on its own.

But either way cloudflare workers are pretty much the cheapest option that exists for serverless compute. You can get enterprise plans which has custom pricing but no one here will be able to tell you what the pricing will be. If you dont want to pay that much per request then a server based option seems like a good solution for you

I shouldn't have enabled it anyways, Smart placement is not good for our Worker because it is too monolithic. will need to split it up or do path-based placements

The duration is only while you are actively handling requests. As soon as all promises resolve and you respond to a request the duration stops.

If all you do in the durable object is storage operations the duration is so negligible that I wouldn’t even consider it when estimating costs tbh

Even if you are multiple concurrent requests on the same object don’t exponentially increase the bill the duration is billed on the object level not the request level so if you have 2 requests at the same time that both take 5 seconds you get billed 5 seconds not 10 seconds.
