Melvor Idle doesn't launch

Today I tried to launch the game Melvor Idle on linux manjaro 6.6.7-4 using Wine-GE-Proton8-27-Lol, but after about 2-5 seconds the game did not start and the Play now button was displayed again. After that I installed Proton-GE-proton8-25 but the result is the same.

Please help me, what should I do?

drag & drop may not work if you are on the deck / using Discord flatpak, use the ++ sign on the left

This game is strange. They seem to rely on a nw.dllnw.dll (which is almost 200MBs in size!) to handle everything. This dll then somehow adds a global object to the Electron renderer, and then they embed their own site (https://epicgames.melvoridle.com/https://epicgames.melvoridle.com/), which is somehow able to talk to this nwnw global

TLDR: Just open up https://melvoridle.com/ in your browser if you really want to play the game. Could even add it to Heroic as a browser game

yeah that's the optimal way to play anyway. I'm guessing people only want to register with epic so that it validates purchase.
Once you do that, there's no benefit of not playing in the browser with a cloud account (strange that they didn't add epic on the website yet tho)

consitently fails with wine-ge and proton-ge, so install the latest wine staging (how to do that will depend on your distro)

Thanks man, switching to staging did in fact work (don't know why I didn't do it sooner). It's incredibly infuriating that heroic flatpak doesn't see it tho, but Appimage does.

flatpaks in general have limitations of what they can see in the system, that's a flatpak thing, you can probably set permissions using flatseal to access where the wine-staging binaries are

nah that's not it, after running Melvor and creating a new account, a sign in page pops up asking me to sign in my epic account and spits this after entering email

maybe try using a VPN or changing your system's DNS servers to use the ones from google?

apparently it was a known issue with epic for 2 days and it's fixed now
