Or really I guess to be more specific about my goals, if I want to upgrade from my RX580 to something that can run Alan Wake II without looking like a slide show, is there something I can get that also isnโt trash on Linux but also wouldnโt be a downgrade in performance from the 8GB RX 580โฆ without spending more than maybe $200?

GNvidia is pretty good nowadays, but it's still not as plug and play as AMD is (for instance, their newest driver is having issues with Wayland right now.) If you want a headache-free experience, go with AMD still.
As for GPUs, perhaps look at the RX 6600 XT? If you're at 1080p, it's about 50% more performance and you can easily find it for around 200 USD nowadays

EIt's... I can't think of a better word than NVIDIA. Not as bad as it was, but still not quite there. I would go with AMD. Much less of a headache
TNvidia isn't exactly garbage, but their drivers introduce weird bugs, their wayland support is not very good, and gamescope and waydroid do not work properly with them. AMD is king. Although I'm seeing ARC brought up, but iirc their drivers on linux are still lacking
Twell the intel arc part of intel drivers specifically. but i heard it improved too
KThe Xe driver just got merged, should it should be replacing i915 in the next major kernel version if I recall rightly.
GThe Arc drivers are definitely very usable on Linux

Jyeah the next kernel will be a red letter day for nvidia users. it won't be as performant, but at least your basic desktop stuff will stop being garbo

GI upgraded to a 7900 XTX primarily for the VRAM for AI stuff myself

AI'm not sure if Deck-Gnome has the same issue with the upside down screen on LGO desktop mode.
