If your issue is with the ergonomics of pressing the shift key, putting shift's behavior on capslock seems the simplist solution, so you don't have to deal with the ergonomics of pressing shift.
You seem to want capslock to act like shift, with the exception that you have to turn it off afterward. It's fine if you want that, and are willing to work to have that, but to me it seems like a weird extra step to have to turn it off afterward, so why have that step entirely.

If you just rebind caps to shift, it won't act like caps anymore. I think there may be a way with keyd to get it to act like both, but I'm not confident about that.

I don't know about Chai, but I have done this so many times for like 20 years, that its just a reflex now, I double press the caps lock key with my pinky almost instantly

you can install it as a layer, then add it as the shell for a terminal profile you can set as default.
would not switch your shell to it as it will break things if you rebase

So I made the mistake already of installing it through Fleek and using 'just chsh' to set it as my default shell. I realized my mistake when none of my Flatpak apps were available.

I used 'just chsh' to revert back to /bin/bash and did a fresh 'fleek init'. Everything /seems/ fine now. Is there anything more I should do to fix it to avoid future problems?

the problem with changing your login shell is that if you rebase and the shell doesnt exist on the image you rebase to, well you got yourself a big problem
