VGamescope doesn't really work in distrobox, and even if it did it'd still rely on your GPU's drivers.
CIf you build a computer without a CPU, it won't break when you try to turn it on, it just won't turn on, until you put a compatible CPU in it

Developer Faith Ekstrand has given a holiday update on the state of NVK, the unofficial open source NVIDIA Vulkan driver and how it's coming along that's worth a read as it's all quite exciting.
CAlso: NVK is limited to Turing and newer architectures
C10XX and earlier GPUs may be supported eventually, after everything else is on par with or better than the proprietary drivers
