SYou've had decades of experience for that I've only had a few years using mod managers and mod managers help against fuck ups
PI make mods and use them and would not recommend for anything that's more than a esp/esm
Pmod managers are good because you do the work once and then you're done
P(if it doesnt suck ass at managing mods, that is)
SPvortex isn't horrible, other than the load ordering
Pyou also need a mod manager for load ordering because prior to I think Skyrim, the games did not have a way to order them in the game or even through a file, it was done through file age. I wouldn't want to go touch all the plugin files by hand to order them

Anot a big deal imo, since this is an optional feature. you can still use the plugin perfectly fine without patching steam.
