it takes your source code and with specific config files
, builds it and then you have an rpm anyone can download

worse is subjective
, but i hate that it does not have a global namespace
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:41 AM
but its good redhat or someone fronts the money to compile all the packages
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:41 AM
with aur you have to compile them after downloading on your pc

Isn
't that more efficient
? i mean every user compiles with an automated script

The
only
exception where it would benefit are kernel modules who need to be signed with a certain key
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:43 AM
yeah say you want to use a mainline kernel in arch
, every update you spend 45 min compiling it
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:44 AM
whereas copr builds the package

so what

2/6/24, 11:44 AM

2/6/24, 11:44 AM
whereas in copr daddy red hat pays the bills
N

OP

also makes sense to have reproducible builds to build it on red hats

yea there are plenty of pro
/cons i bet
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:45 AM
also you can be sure the package built the binary which is not true with github actions
. Essentially its the same security as AUR but no compilation
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:46 AM
0 downside for us
, only for fedora that pays the bills
N
Niklas ⚡
OP
•
2/6/24, 11:46 AM
There is always a benefit to both sides
, even the side who is paying the bills
A
antheas
•
2/6/24, 11:46 AM
sure copr compiling the kernel might take 3 hours and for your device 45 min
N

otherwise they wouldn

My personal opinion is that it
's always better to compile on own machine

But ahh well

A

I know i know
.
.

, but seems not
A
antheas

2/6/24, 11:51 AM
they have the same system and a compilation system on top
A

?
