To create ui you don't need IBM Watson. I have just shown it as an example. You only have to install node-red-contrib-ui from Palette Manager. As shown in the video. To control RPi from other device can also be done locally as shown in the video. But you can pretty much use any other free cloud service

Platform IO is going to give you breadth of hardware support if you plan on moving beyond ESP in the future. Another option might be Embeetle, which @kmulier developed. However, you might want to get feedback from @Umesh Lokhande @Aditya thakekar @Joseph Ogbonna and others who actively develop on ESP to get their take.
