in realness I have overarching niches in my wardrobe i seek to fill and try to keep an open mind, its rarer that i will seek specific pieces from specific designers these days. this leads to a lot of impulse purchases, but my hit rate on them is pretty high, and it keeps the experimentation fresh. I think doing some better planning would be a fun exercise too

90% online. Mostly cause I normally cop off a drop or used, all of which requires some level of just pulling trig and aren't available irl. That said if something seems like its going to sit to sale and is out of my current price range, I'll try to wait for said sale and cop then. In reality I would say its more split because sometimes I don't think I'm going to cop something, cause of price or don't love it at first, but then it sticks in my mind and if it comes up on sale at the end of the season, well, we copping. So like 75% spontaneous, 25% with some thought. I don't live in New York so the number of stores even selling clothes I'm interested in near me IRL is low anyway. I also hate thrifting.

I do prefer shopping in person but the reality of it is that I'd have to fly to another city to just try it on. After such a long time shopping online, I have a good grasp of how it'll look on me based on the measurements so it's rare I return things. Purchases are very rarely spontaneous unless it's like a sudden sample sale that gets my heart pumping. Usually I see something I like and keep it saved. Look through instagram for pics of it being worn to confirm that choice and wait for it to go on sale.

As for refreshing the wardrobe, I just look at pieces I don't gravitate towards anymore and it's not an immediate thing, just a oh, I haven't worn that in such a long time. I do try to force myself to wear it for a day. But if throughout the day I don't feel that "I like what I'm wearing" feeling, I sell it.

Apart from when I travel it's 100% online. I generally obsess about a niche I'm looking to fill like another sport coat, or clive owen's overcoat in children of men. I'll spend dozens / hundreds of hours scouring ebay / FromJapan and every retail store I know of until I score a hit. Occasionally I'll stumble on a bargain and impulse buy but it's rare these days since I have a fairly full wardrobe already and I generally don't do dupes.

Gonna say 50/50 lately because a lot of it is in-person vintage/thrifting.

I've been really working toward budgeting my fashion spending and finding that keeping an annual budget aside really helps with compulsive purchases. In addition, I have slotted in a wishlist of big ticket items for the year that really helps contextualize how much I'm gonna spend on designer pieces or stuff over a certain price range for the year, as well as provide a basis for what I'm looking to improve upon in my current wardrobe in terms of goals.

I have a fairly strong hit rate I find with pieces because I have 2 or 3 aesthetics that I'm actively looking to work towards consistently, and so I've developed a decently strong idea of how something will look with other parts of my wardrobe.

I buy like 90% online and 10% in person. Thrifting is not great where I live, but there’s a few decent stores. When I travel, I always try to make time for at least 1 day of shopping. As for planning I’d say that my wardrobe is 80% planned and 20% impulse. Generally I try to budget ahead of time for most shit I want, but I leave the door open for the spontaneous item that sparks joy, especially if I’m shopping secondhand. Not had great luck finding stuff secondhand if I’m looking for a specific thing, but if I’m just looking to have fun I find stuff more easily.

I constantly browse around and keep tabs open on my phone if I like something. After a while, usually a few months, of having it open and looking at it hundreds of times, and feeling like it fits a space in my wardrobe I’ll cop.

I just rely on what NMWA sells for like 80%+ of my purchases. I trust their curation more than my own eye for new brands and styles and the Styleforum community posts enough photos (or is otherwise helpful enough) to help me gauge what I think would work for me.
