I am looking at Vivaldi now and I can see that it's definitely the original opera creators, but remember opera was built on lies, it is good now yes but it used to ship with hidden adware viruses and hook itself on installs if you installed a program, opera had a shady and honestly pretty bad beginning and it was slower than all of the competition.
Vivaldi being the original creators is therefore extremely worrying for me
But also the more a browser says it is adfree and tracker free the more I struggle to trust it, how are they earning their money?
And they showed off their os which just looked a lot like a modified playnite theme, I'd say to be wary of them, remember that major tech news outlets also reported on bitconnect being the real deal.
There's messages of the founder/CEO asking for WINE/Proton devs in the ChimeraOS discord from over a year ago. I think playtron as a product exists, dunno why they chose to steal this though...
Tbh, playtron simply scares me, I know I am hating far too much than reasonable, I just believe that Linux should always be open source, based on the fact that playtron has people on a payroll is scary as that may indicate that playtron will be closed source, and the fact that the founder has connections in meta is also scary.
As I said I may be hating too much, but that one os picture being taken straight from playnite (or at least looking like it) and this video being a stolen video, and the founder having people on a higher than minimum wage payroll is just scary and shady to me.
The video isn't the playtron x86 to ARM engine though. It's a standard box64 setup. I understand box64 powers that engine, but stealing a video and claiming it is that engine is now how you market something truthfully.
I'm not saying "This is the downfall of Playtron!" but starting off with the first big media coverage you get with an uncredited video which isn't running 100% on your platform is not how you fain trust with the community you're trying to build. I do hope Playtron does well (And hopefully does well in a way that benefits the FOSS community) but antics like this are how you get people to instantly have distrust in you.
