Under Custom Hostnames you can use DCV Delegation as well, creating a cname from _acme-challenge to the dcv hostname Cloudflare gives you, so that it can freely renew the certificate in the future/retry on its own

You don't need the TXT if you're going to use DCV Delegation.

You need to drop the gluee.shop part of it, it should be just

_acme-challenge

_acme-challenge

as the Host for the CNAME. Otherwise it's taking it to be

_acme-challenge.gluee.shop

_acme-challenge.gluee.shop

as the subdomain, which puts it under

 _acme-challenge.gluee.shop.gluee.shop

Assuming this is LetsEncrypt (or something similar), yes. In reality, it should be done every 60 days (which LE does), and it should be handled by automated systems (ex. cron jobs).

Depends on your setup and what you're using for this? Not really much info to go off of here. Assuming you did it manually, that tells me you aren't using something built into Cloudflare (otherwise it would've done it all for you).

Ahhh. That's because workers don't use the PHP engine. You'd need to rewrite them or hire someone who can do that, depending on the complexity.

Yeah it's for the custom hostname validation, Cloudflare doesn't allow random domains to just CNAME to your domain unless validated by doing a TXT record challenge. It does say the expiration date (seems to be 3 months after validated) and I'm just wondering what happens when that expires, because having to do it again with all the customers feels quite annoying.

Most web servers have them. You can search up web hosts and find one, some free and many paid. Alternatively you can host your own and use cloudflared to expose it to the public. Just depends on the script(s) and whether or not you'd want them self hosted or hosted on workers. It's still doable, just depends on what it is.

Don't know, never used it. The level of complexity of the script(s) will control how well it works out. If it's a single file, it's got a decent chance. If it's an entire application like WordPress, I wouldn't count on it. That's just me, though.

Let's Encrypt "validations" expire after 30 days, and given the 90 days expiration of certificates, they are typically being renewed, when there is 30 days (or less) left on the previous certificate, meaning around every 60 days.
The TXT would therefore need to be changed at least once every 60 days for that reason.

You SHOULD be able to set it up with the DCV Delegation to avoid having to change it all the time, for you customer's setup with your SaaS configuration.

However, the DCV Delegation could be a Catch-22, and come with similar consequences:

If your customer is creating a CNAME (or other records) on the

_acme-challenge

_acme-challenge

label for e.g. Let's Encrypt validations, then their set up with any other provider trying to issue certificates (and depending on the same DNS record label for that) may cause them to break the set up with you, when they are trying to fix the issuance problem they're ending up with on their other provider, and vice versa.
