help! - my rhino has started behaving erratically - main 2 issues are sometimes when I start it up am getting a zero value on the ibus (stick remains limp) - then when it starts working strangely my left and right axis seem to be reversed (the little blue circle when I push the stick right moves left!) previously it was moving the same way as the stick - what would you suggest and is there any way to do a reset?

Sounds like your calibration/configuration got reset - probably by accident.

Strangely the ibus has now come back (around 0.7A from zero) and stick is now working again! (Not sure if it’s intermittent issue)- no idea what’s causing the behaviour…..

Once you start DCS it's normal for it go limp until you start a flight.

Can you grab with everything in view? Win+Shift+S for windows snip tool vs pictures with your phone

Ibus is not a good indicator, it's normally at zero when motors are idle

Ok gain was definitely not zero - understood on the ibus - but when this happened the only noticeable thing that looked weird was the. Ibus was zero normally mine sits just above …

Sometimes in DCS flying warbirds in cruise , not moving the stick, I loose vibration for a sec or two and then a tiny movement of the stick gets it back, is there a way to solve this?

So have done some more testing since the recalibration and it’s working much better however found 1)everything seems to be working ok except in the ah64 couldn’t get the force trim to work correctly (can see from the stick monitor the stick centre is changing but the rhino does not seem to be moving to the new centre) 2)need to reset the FFB between planes in DCs for the FFB to work 3)unrelated to the above but my anti virus is picking up a virus on one of the Telem files qtcore.pyd ….

in the effects tab setup hardware trim tick box then assign the buttons trim release / trim reset /trim up, down, left, right. Then put the stick where you want and press trim reset. Apply settings and store settings after each change you make to save the settings.

I don't think setting the trim buttons is necessary. afaik it is for sims that don't have native force trim support.
I'd just reset the motors or the config. calibrate the axes if you haven't done that before.
if you have used TelemFFB it might have got stuck there and you could reset the effect in there.

on which aircraft? If you look at the settings you will see these two.. neither should produce violent results unless maybe if your periodics gain was at %100.

Buffet is a rumble if the gear are deployed above the speed threshold, but has nothing to do with the gear moving
Motion is a high frequency vibration while the gear are in motion.

Just curios, can you upgrade the stock motors of the Rhino with the Nema34 variants? I take it it won't fit the stock case and/or the other parts need to be strengthened?

Anything less than 80% Master gain and I personally just dont feel... much of any flight related queue's at all minus centering strength , a lot of the time I run it on 100% master gain too, that's more to do with me than the stick, and the stick has always been performing perfectly

When I was running TelemFFB for the first time in months was when it tried killing itself with instant up/left as I was spawning in, never had that happen before.
Wasn't ready for it so couldn't catch it, still had my hand on the mouse from clicking Fly button.

tab is configured (since the settings sliders are factors of the effects tab values), those Damper/Inertia/Friction sliders are insanely high and will absolutely lead to instability and potential motor fault protection shutdowns, especially when there are effects like engine rumble and or elevator droop suddenly playing when you load into an aircraft.

That's kinda just it though, "depending on", not much explanation for any of the effects what they actually do in flight if I'm gonna be honest.

Not many shared setups available either and I've tried them and they all just feel way too... weak/vague.
I've been doing lots of hard manual work with pneumatic hammers etc with nerves not in best condition, I don't catch the minute FFB queue's like maybe someone who has had a safer working life would.

With nothing to go on I don't have much of a choice but turning everything up until it feels good and so far it's been great up until recent incident.

been doing some testing since recalibrating everything (and reversing the x axis) and rhino is working much better now - however still having an issue with the ah64 and force trim and wondering how best to resolve it? - basically when I start up the ah64 (note all setting in the configurator are default - i think) - my stick has a tendency to drift down - how when I hit the force trim button its definitely shifting to the new centre both the stick and also in the stick monitors (both in DCS and the one in the configurator) - however the stick still seems to be a little limp (like with a low spring value) even though spring is set at 100% in the main settings)and its also drifting down - however when I hit the reset FFB button (in telem) the stick firms up and behaves how I would expect - however now when I hit force trim the centre shifts in the DCS stick monitor to what I would expect however in the configuration monitor the centre remains unchanged and the stick does not shift to the "new" centre - however aside from the force trim issue the stick is behaving as I would expect - strangely when I check the debug page in the configurator (before the ffb reset) - loaded effects ID's 1-4 looking pretty normal - but appearing at ID5 is a spring entry that is showing 9% - centre of 0, coefficient 4055 and saturation of 4096 - immediately after I hit the FFB reset I get the loaded effects 1-4 as before (no ID5) then when I start using the stick again I get ID's 5-10 with the entry "SINE" next to them with "100%" next to all the ID's except ID5 which is now showing as "SINE" but strangely rather than showing as "100%" like the rest is showing with a "9%" next to it - similar value to before the FFB reset when it was showing as "spring" rather than "sine"- of course now the trim reset does not seem to be working the stick or show in the configurator monitor (can also provide some pics of the settings if it helps?)....

1.) Please try without TelemFFB running. It does nothing to affect the force trim in DCS and you are only complicating things by running with TelemFFB while trying to troubleshoot the spring.
2.) All the "sine" effects you see are the various rumbles like engine/rotor/etc.
3.) Please again post pictures of your configurator , both the settings and effects pages
4.) Hitting 'reset effects' in telemffb will destroy the FFB effects that DCS creates and you may need to restart the sim to get them back... this is what the warning in TelemFFB means
5.) Whatever walmis is about to tell you

ChatGPT to the rescue

After recalibrating everything and reversing the x-axis, Rhino is functioning much better now. However, there's still an issue with the AH64 and force trim that needs addressing. Essentially, upon starting up the AH64 (with all settings in the configurator set to default, I believe), my stick tends to drift down. When I press the force trim button, it does shift to the new center, both visually in the stick monitors (both in DCS and the one in the configurator). However, the stick still feels somewhat limp, like it has a low spring value, despite the spring being set at 100% in the main settings. Additionally, it continues to drift. Strangely, when I hit reset FFB effects (in telem), the stick firms up and behaves as expected. However, after doing this, when I hit force trim, the center shifts in the DCS stick monitor but remains unchanged in the configuration monitor, and the stick does not shift to the new center as it did before the FFB reset.

Apart from the force trim issue, the stick behaves as expected. Interestingly, when I check the debug page in the configurator (before the FFB reset), loaded effects IDs 1-4 look normal. However, at ID5, there's a spring entry showing 9%, with a center of 0, coefficient of 4055, and saturation of 4096. Immediately after the FFB reset, I get the loaded effects 1-4 as before, but now with ID5 showing "SINE" next to it, along with "100%" next to all other IDs except ID5, which oddly displays "SINE" with "9%" next to it, resembling the pre-FFB reset state.

Following the FFB reset, the trim reset no longer seems to function on the stick or reflect in the configurator monitor. Any assistance in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. (I can also provide some screenshots of the settings if needed).

-so to address some of the points 1)so can check the trim settings in DCs (assume I should make them match the screenshot for the rhino column?)2)in terms of testing without Telem I can try (assume the force trim function should function with telem off- restring the position of the stick?)3)correct using the f18 metal stick with a Z extension - what would u suggest for the balance spring settings?4)will post some setting pics shortly?5) note your points on resetting FFB (found I did not need to restart DCs after resetting - only issue was the force trim not working - but restart if I do in the future) 6)assuming from the comments the id5 spring setting appearing set to 9% then after a reset appearing as a sine also at 9% could be a red herring?
