Hey,
I just recently finished my kit-build rhino. I am very happy so far. But I came across a hickup.
I was flying in DCD (Mirage F1) - having a blast with it - and was tabbing back and forth between DCS and the VPcontrol software. Adjusting and testing different gain levels. Everything worked fine and suddenly the stick went all limb and dead (I briefly heard the reconnect chime).
When I looked in the control software, everything was gone. All effects unchecked, all gains zeroed, calibration reset. (Unfortunately I didn't export my settings in a conf file - lessons learned.
So far it was a one off occurrence. Any ideas what happened? Did I just crash the software or could it be some kind of hardware issue? ty

My guess is you didn't "Store" the configuration. "Apply" only sets the configuration in RAM and it resets to last stored configuration on restart.

No, this lesson I learned already, I pressed apply and store frequently - after each adjustment basically. After the Stick went dead, I couldn't load the configuration from it neither....

I might also add, that the stick itself was fine. After I re-applied all my settings from memory (and this time saved a .conf file...), the Rhino worked fine again.

NEVERMIND !!!! I scrapped with a knife to make sure, and it is indeed ANODIZED aluminium.. I was expecting some natural aluminium part. I DO APOLOGIZE TO YOU for the bothering and for the WRONG report. I am really sorry. very impressed with the whole base

all my extensions for stick are natural aluminum and didnt expect to find an anodized part in black. and since it has exactly the same color as the internal part I thought somethign was missing. A small blade pressure confirmed mer it was indeed aluminium. Your base construction is SUPERB btw. I am really impressed witht he whole quality of the thing. now to install everything and try it. THANKS AGAIN for making this avalaible to us simmers !!!

@walmis Hi Walmis my Rhino stopped working in mid flight in IL2
I restarted PC, now works but no FFB effects
I tried DCS and same , no FFB effects
I loaded the default profile from the VP Force configurator and no luck
disconnected, reconnected and no effects
Reset motors , no luck, seems like Telem wont communicate with the joystick
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Are you talking about native FFB effects (i.e. dynamic spring, trim movement) or effects from TelemFFB (engine rumble, gunfire, etc)?

Idk if it's a DCS issue, user error, or a TelemFFB issue, but sometimes in the Apache when you crash, of course the stick goes limp, but then when you spawn in new helicopter the stick just shoots all the way forward (smacked the shit out of my desk twice, thankfully not breaking anything). Then, your stick position is weirdly off center to the front about halfway to max forward deflection. The positon fixes itself after the helicopter turns on.

I think it's DCS setting the stick position to the middle of full pitch down when the helicopter is off, then after you turn it on, and wiggle the controls a bit, it recenters normally.

I've learned that once I die in the Apache to just hit the e-stop on the stick until I'm ready to fly.

I think this is the series of events: Die -> stick goes limp -> respawn -> DCS hastily moves the stick center to 50% pitch down (for some reason) -> Rhino tries to respond as quick as possible but massively overshoots the new center point.

It's fairly easy to reproduce. Just crash an Apache, let go of your rhino, and respawn. (I would not recommend fully letting go as that's why it hit my desk. Normally, my stick cannot touch my desk. About a .75in gap. It must have flexed the pastic Winwing adapter)

trying to think what telemffb effect could even cause this... "runway rumble" is the only one I an think of if the telemetry wigs out when you re-spawn. Quickest way to rule in/out TelemFFB though would be to try to reproduce without it running

Because the sticks position is being commanded by DCS. But oddly enough, in the configurator, when the stick is trying to maintain the 50% pitch down attitude, the center point is still showing the middle. Something is forcing the stick forward.

I have a mechanics question. When I move the gimbal along either axis x or y, it moves nice and smooth. However, when I move it diagonally, I hear and feel a clicking/snapping sound. It doesn’t really hinder the function but is a bit irritating. Any ideas where it is coming from? I already ruled out the cable hitting the sides.

Are you on vacation?

If yes yep just use a plug it’s fine.

If this is for a permanent set up I would recommend buying a new power supply with the correct plug for the wall type.

That’s just going to be better and when you want to switch back to UK plugs you still have the power supply for it.

hi there, i've got a question regarding the GAIN function of the pot. how does the gain act with respect to the base setting slider? e.g. will it increase values above 100%, if the slider is set to 100% already? is there a recommendation where to set the slider, if the effect is also allocated to the GAIN pot?

The potentiometer gain (when you turn it up or down) has a MAX value as set by the software.

If on the software you have it set to (example) 47%

The knob on the potentiometer turns itself 0-100 but it’s max in put is 47% along the slider.

(So it can’t screw up the software hard stops)

It basically lowers the value to whatever you have set and at max = the value you set in the software.

There’s a decent explanation of how it works in Walmis Intro video but it’s easy to miss because it’s a long video and covers a lot of ground.
