Runfortunately, some really good apps only release as source code or appimage, and haven't been made into packages in repositories for various reasons. So we're stuck using appimages...

Ton the real @tulip i think the reason we explicitly kind of support appimage here because bazzite was originally intended for the steam deck, and some applications there use the appimage format, or something like emudeck installs certain emulators as appimage vs flatpak for some reason
