it should be automatic since steam askds for the discrete graphics (option doesnt work actually but we patched switcheroo to work when it is requested by the .desktop.desktop file for an application and the option is then inherited by anything launched by the application)

yeah so steam has a setting in its .desktop.desktop file that requests the "other" gpu. but it doesnt work properly in switcheroo (the system that handles swithcing gpus)

We ship a patched switcheroo, so what should be happening is your card is determined to be discreet and then selected as the default for things that request it like Steam

The good news is you have the environment variables right there, so you can just copy those into a Steam desktop file

Is there any way to tell for sure that a system update is happening? Noticing a bunch of network and disk usage with no easy way to tell which processes are using bandwidth or why my SSD is reading at 100% speed, except that baloo_file_extractor run by systemd is going full tilt on something
