About the positioning, I'll move my base a bit upwards to compensate the lack of 20cm extension. I'm more interested to hear from anyone that flies helos has removing the extension resulted in having less precision in the controls?
When I flew with the VKB base with cams and springs, having longer lever helped in keeping the grip where I wanted. Now with the FFB, I've only flown with 20cm extension so I don't know how it behaves with just grip and the Rhino. Is it enough or is extension still recommended for flying helos?

Nah, even completely without an extension it has what is comparatively to other sticks a 10cm extension.
After adding my extension I have had to dial in the throw range quite a bit cause my fat self is interfering

That's reassuring to hear. I do have 13 degree limiter plate already installed so if needed I can always remove it if the throw will be too short

Yeah, Think I'm running 70% roll and 60% pitch at the moment..
So if I'm loosing anything it's because of that.
I might have to modify my seat cushion and figure some way to do a t-slot mount solution so I can adjust height, back and forth position of it to get it

just right, I might ideally not need the extension and gain back som range, hopefully.

I've bought the VKB adapter in advance of receiving a Rhino. If the adapter is apt to fail in normal use seems an alternative all-metal unit is needed.

I don't run an extension, but have had no issues with my adapter. My guess is the poor connection design from VKB and long extension put a lot of stress on the adapter. And like Andy said above better for that to break than the actual vkb grip.

Well I have the MCG Ultimate grip which is metal. The issue remains that it would be ideal to have the VKB adapter done in metal as an option. More expensive no doubt but the current adapter is not cheap either.

Not disagreeing that it could be a nice option. I'm just not sure it is necessary for most use cases. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If they were all constantly failing Walmis would have had a solution asap. Also the metal grip vs plastic is not the concern for VKB breaking. It's the connection for the grip that to me has always been underwhelming. I do think the new Rev C are much better, but it's obvious that even VKB agrees it's not the best as they have been updating it so much.

The only concern was with the pads, which rev.C eliminated entirely, grip fastener offers plenty of clamping force to hold a MCGU

Even an MCGU on the end of an extension should not have play, even slightly, at any grip fastener in the overall assembly

@nubbins is right. I have the MCGU with the adapter, too. Given the sheer height of the MCGU, the additional length of the adapter itself, attached to an already tall arm of the Rhino, there is about 150mm of extension from the gimble to the stick. That's plenty of fine control. I, too, would be wary of putting an extension on top of the adapter; if an extension is necessary for your rig, would be preferable to use a Warthog/Virpil compatible extension with the adapter on top. All this being said, while the Rhino is strong at 100 %, I've yet to sense any flex or creaking in the VKB adapter under load. I typically run master gain at about 60 to 65 %, anyway. 100% strength is novel to play with, but can be more distracting than informative in every day flying.

I did put the 100mm back on top to see how it fared, and the plastic threads of the adapter seem ok. But I am also using pretty much exclusively the metal grip connector. Dunno how the stock vpforce one would fare

Yeah, that's my conclusion too after two collars shearing off. I even reduced overall force (with helo flying I rarely go above 50% deflection) and heavily reduce TelemFFB effects just to reduce the possibility of the vibrations exacerbating the effect.

I think even if just the collar was metal it would have been fine, but anyway I'll dump the extension after reading all your feedback on the topic.

Hello everyone, after trying out my 20, 10, 5 and 15 cm (5+10) extensions on my rig, I have to admit that what counts most is (of course) personal comfort. Between the mobility of the stick, my legs, my arm and wrist and all that put together well it's the 10 extension + grip combo that suits me best. No loss of manoeuvrability, in fact quite the opposite! In short, you really have to try out what suits you best.

With my 10cm exentsion, I haven't noticed any problems with the Rhino joint. Is this also due to the frequent grip changes that some people make? Out of curiosity (ok ok also for a little fear) I printed the 3D part proposed by Walmis in 2 qualities (metal + black resin). I'll let you know how I use them soon

very nice setup, but is this where the concern about vkb clamp "flexing" comes from? sounds like something is wrong with that particular z-extension, which is a custom design (from the reddit dude who wrapped his MCG Pro in bike tape?), should probably try another design perhaps TM-Rev.C instead of Rev.B-Rev.B or Rev.C-Rev.C
