Tbh I think the real secret sauce to the Deck is the OS
.
Bazzite already gives you the SteamOS experience on other hardware
.

Agreed
, game mode
(gamescope
-session
) is the important part

On Windows
, 16 bit apps don
't run on 64 Bit OS
, only on 32
. But on Linux they run fine on 64

Unfortunately other devices are very tentatively maintained within gamescope from what I hear

wonder what the power draw per day will be
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:01 PM
That
's more so platform related
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:01 PM
That depends on the hardware
, yeah
C

•
7/20/24, 3:01 PM
Shouldn

I do wish AMD hadn
't dropped S3 sleep on modern hardware
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:02 PM
I guess hibernate is different given Fedora explictly doesn
't support it
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:02 PM
But the ones that primarily suffer from no S3 now are Windows users lol
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:02 PM
And Windows does
, but Windows suspend
/hibernate is always plug
'n pray
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:02 PM
I don
't get how Microsoft has screwed up modern standby so much

My favorite boon to Linux gaming as opposed to Windows is running extremely old ...

Anything I
've run from 15 to 20 years ago hijacks the whole compositor to hilarious effect
C

7/20/24, 3:04 PM
It
's more due to how exclusive fullscreen works there

considering how unfamiliar suspend is to me
, does whatever is being run at the moment affect how much power is drawn during suspend
?
ie
. running something heavy like any AAA game vs small indie game at the time of suspension
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:04 PM
Good question
, I don
't believe it makes a difference since it
's not running the game loop in suspend
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:04 PM
Just keeping the RAM powered
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:05 PM
hmmm
, theoretically it shouldnt have any effect then
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:05 PM
I use the pause games decky plugin as an extra precaution
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:05 PM
It freezes the game process before suspend
, unfreezes it on resume
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
There
's no secret sauce in SteamOS suspend by the way
, it
's just normal Linux suspend
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
i
'll check it out too
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
All the optimization they did is in the hardware itself
C

•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
linux is still black magic to me
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
so it
's pretty much all secret sauce
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:06 PM
I think someone previously asked about how Bazzite has SteamOS suspend
.
The answer was that Bazzite did nothing
, it
's just regular suspend lol
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:07 PM
Happens often
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:07 PM
I
've seen it 4 or 5 times already
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:07 PM
Though technically there was a tiny bit of work to hook up the power button to the steamOS suspend
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:07 PM
does anyone have a rough estimate on how much battery is drained per
.
.
.
. 24h of suspend
?
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:07 PM
Hardware dependent
, easier to test yourself
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
probably wont be 100

E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
i hope
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
Yeah
, some hardware is really bad with power drain in suspend
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
You can always turn it off
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
Ayaneo is guilty
, if I
'm remembering right
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
because i sometimes get busy with work and dont touch my ally for a few days
C

•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
I remember reading something about a quick resume
-type feature on Linux
E
EsauFtgz
•
7/20/24, 3:08 PM
and i assume letting the battery drain completely is very VERY bad
C
Crono
•
7/20/24, 3:09 PM
Just turn it off if you don
't think you
'll use it for a while
A
Aru
•
7/20/24, 3:09 PM
If only s3 sleep was still around
C

Just turn it off if you don't think you'll use it for a while
