Jazz Jackrabbit Collection, GOG, crash at menu
See title. Installed Windows version. Once it gets to the menu screen after a few seconds the music starts cutting out then it crashes.
Thanks for any insight!

I believe if you install DOSBox Staging that will be used natively rather than running DOSBox through Proton.

Is that a separate program I take it?

DOSBox Staging? Yes.

Well it was worth a shot but nope.

Thanks I'll give it a shot in the morning, hopefully.

I think I know what might be going on here, or at least part of it: the DOSBox conf files have stopped being downloaded, but I have no idea how or why
Whatever changed though, it likely happened some time after 10 December 2024. That's when I installed WarCraft 1 and that still downloaded the conf files.
So I did some more digging and discovered that, for Jazz jackrabbit at least, the conf files are in a "__support" folder (along with the cloud save templates, but I'm not sure how they're supposed to work here) within the offline installer, but is somehow not getting processed properly when Heroic installs it

Oh hey thanks for looking into this. I haven't had a chance to mess with it since Saturday, unfortunately.
Yeah that how-to is beyond my capabilities.

Without figuring out why the conf files aren’t getting installed, it’s kind of moot at this point

I did a test, I have GOG installed on its own (in addition to Heroic) so I tried installing through that and Jazz Jackrabbit did the same thing; crashed at menu after a few seconds. So I'm thinking it's a problem with Dosbox or Dosbox Staging. I really don't know my way around Linux at all, so that's probably where I'm going to have to leave it for now.

You installed dosbox staging from discover and gave it the proper permissions in flatpak like the github page above?
adverse-sapphire•5mo ago
Refresh the page, does that help?

Step through the numbered steps and say which one is causing trouble

I'm at work I'll try this weekend

ugh, so Jazz started working for me, conf files and all, but SpyCraft is still borked, but that's for another thread
