If it's going back to the primary to pull the entire database I can see that being part of the reason for this. Pulling 2.5GB from WEUR to APAC or OC will surely take more than a few hundred ms. I feel like caching the checkpoints in each region would help significantly there, especially if you immediately boot the database and then sync the changes after. Clients that specify they don't care about any checkpoint could theoretically get the same performance as the primary, if it's cached
