Lost access to account, need to update DNS records

I am part of an IT team for a client that used Cloudflare in the past. We do not have any credentials to login to our account but we still communicate with the former staff member that this account is linked to. Is there anyway we can regain access to our system?

According to the Cloudflare documentation, if you do not have access to your 2FA account or backup codes and cannot currently generate a 2FA code, you can use a verified device that you have logged in from before to request a temporary access code. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Go to the Cloudflare login page and enter your username and password. 2. On the Two-Factor Authentication page, select "Try recovery" on "Lost all 2FA devices and backup codes?". 3. Select "Begin recovery". 4. A 6-digit access code will be sent to the email address associated with your Cloudflare account. 5. Enter the temporary access code into the Cloudflare Dashboard and select "Verify email". 6. Select "Verify device". This checks whether you are using a device that has previously logged into your account. If you receive a "Device verification failed" message, you can follow the instructions shown in the recovery workflow. It's also recommended to contact the former staff member to see if they can provide any assistance or information that can help you regain access to the account. Please note that this process is subject to Cloudflare's security policies and procedures, and may require additional verification steps to ensure the security of the account. At the very least, you'll need access to the accounts email address. If you don't know the address, you can try this: https://developers.cloudflare.com/fundamentals/account/account-security/login-and-account-issues/#free-pro-and-business-plans

We believe we know the address and the person that owned the address that once existed. We have communication with her but the address had been deactivated due to inactivity @Laudian

You'll need to reactivate the email address if you want to regain access to the old account.

It was a Yahoo account, so if we sign up as a new account with this same address, we’d be able to regain access?

Yes, sure. I mean, you will still have 2FA problems if it was used, but those can most likely be solved if you have access to the email.

Got it! Will try doing this now and get back to you. I really appreciate your fast responses here I have an update. Unfortunately, Yahoo will not allow me to recreate the account using the original email due to security purposes. Would there be anyway to receive a text code from Cloudflare to the number on file, maybe?

I doubt it. Was it a free account or using any paid features?

It most likely was a free account. I can ask our staff to confirm that

In that case, it might be fastest if you just create a new account and move the domain to that. You'll just need to know what DNS records to create at the new account.

Would this cause any downtime?

Not if you know all the DNS records.

Switched them over to a new account. Hoping this does it 🙏
