I get black screens on the simplest games and even the snapping tool

Sorry for opening a ticket here. I tried searching for various answers online but came up short. I am new to Linux. But sadly I got a problem with my graphics card straight out of the gate. For some reason my system is running on the iGPU and I can't seem to figure out why. There's already so much to learn and this is throwing me for a loop. So there's three likely scenarios. Either there's an option somewhere that switches to/from iGPU that I can't find. The OS hastruble reading or recognizing the dGPU. Or the graphics card is DoA. I had a friend help me but they had to leave. We verified I got the correct bazzite install (AMD), we ran updates, made sure to unplug and replug the power supply to the card. I hope someone can help me with this. My specs as follows: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X GPU: AMD Radeon 9070 XT
Solution:
:/ See if disabeling adaptive sync makes any difference in the weird screenshot glitch

What do you mean choose? The 9070xt is a desktop GPU right? You choose iGPU or dGPU on a desktop based on where you’re plugged in. Dynamic switching like on a laptop isn’t really a thing

Yeah that's what's so weird about it. I got my screen plugged into the video card. Maybe I'm just hoping agaisnt hope it isn't dead.

What are you noticing? Does it say it's using integrated graphics? Or are you having very poor performance?

I got very poor performance. Only the simplest games like Slay the Spire play and I am even noticing lag there. Did some more digging with my friend and the card seems to be noticed but driver seems to fail to load? I'm going to try to flash a different linux distro on a stick and see if that works.

Same issues in Fedora. It seems to not get recognised. In the meantime we also completely removed the video card and plugged it back in to be sure and changed the PCIE slot to gen4 in bios

Try disabling the igpu in bios and installing lact to see if the voltages and frequencies etc are doing what they're supposed to do Oh, and if you're using a riser cable, mount it directly for diagnosing

already disabled igpu in bios. I'll look into lact. I don't got a riser cable.

With nvtopyou can see the pcie connection it's using

Sorry I can't take screenshots because the whole pc black screens when I do so.

It's running at the correct pcie gen and lanes. Did you manage to run lact?

Yeah here is the info screen

Those all seem correct. try running a gpu stresstest on occt for example and see if the power usage etc acts normal. Is your psu sufficient for the card?
Indigo πŸ”œ EF
Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
It's a CX750. I used pcpartpicker to pick matching items so I figured it would be sufficient? Okay I downloaded occt but I'm unsure which program to open it with.
biebel
biebelβ€’2mo ago
Depends on the exact model I think. 750 is the minimum for my pulse model, but oc models are probably higher. I'm not sure what the symptoms would be when they're insufficient. Shouldn't matter on the desktop I think. just doubleclick it. Might need to make it executable first, can't remember.

Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
oh yeah I keep forgetting to make it executable. Sorry new to Linux.

Running now

do the 3d adaptive one instead. It's weird that your gpu clock is so low on every screenshot tho

Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
Yeah I figured I'd run CPU too just in case

Fans of the GPU are not running but it's probably because it's at a cool 46C/114.8F
biebel
biebelβ€’2mo ago
it does seem to have more than 1hmz now. Try to run it on steady and extreme, so we can see if it boosts and draws power as it should

Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
Steady with heavy load. Fans are finally spinning

Now doing extreme

Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
Extreme load. Sure drawing power now.

Yeah, power draw and boosts speeds are right. Really weird that you're having those performance issues and glitches :/

Yeah I have been pulling my hair out. Had a DoA motherboard before, then trouble with the DDR RAM later and now this. This PC is cursed. So heavy testing is fine but I can't play anything more intensive than slay the spire I can't even screenshot wth is this

More as a sanity check than anything else, what outputs do you get from switcherooctl and kscreen-doctor -o
Indigo πŸ”œ EF
Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
I like sanity checks because I've been losing mine

Most of this is beyond my shallow depth.

This all looks correct. Time for trying something not quite sane. If you have a DP cable, try with that
Indigo πŸ”œ EF
Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
That's the problem. I don't have one. I got two screens and one tablet all HDMI. WaS meaning to buy adapters to convert them into DP after everything was sorted.

I've been looking, but I am not sure this older monitor has adaptive sync? Reminds me that I haven't checked with a different monitor, I still got my newest monitor connected to my old dying pc lemme switch those

I saw vrr on automatic in the screendoctor output.

No worries. Hope the performance issues are gone too, because that's some decent hardware to game on really
Indigo πŸ”œ EF
Indigo πŸ”œ EFOPβ€’2mo ago
yeah I figured I'd spend some extra money to be solid for the foreseaable future now I can play Slay the Spire 2 without worrying about performance when it gets out πŸ˜› once I got the desk cleaned and everything set up I'll post a pic of my rig in showcase. Will probably be after this weekend. I'm tired about worrying and wanna relax a litte.
