MFAD Recomends: Chinos - Topic of the day 8/4/25
We're obviously pants enthusiasts here but what say you: do you have a favorite pair of chinos? Let us know about them - the brand, the cost, how to buy, any pics and what makes it so great. Or if you had an awful pair, feel free to roast it here 🫡 Looking for more advice on what chinos to buy? Search in #questions-and-advice for chinos/trousers to see previous threads and make a new one if you haven't found an answer. 👍

I wish I could rock chinos but as a dude I have a bubble butt so they look weird on me
That has nothing to do with chinos
I recently bought these sophnet chinos and they are good

look very tapered in product photos but don’t really look like it on body imo
bro thinks he's the only one here with a scrumptious juicy booty :icant: :icant:
im not a chino guy but the j crew giant chino on discount is nice for me

My favorite are my 60s army ones, but the Uniqlo U ones are a close second: https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E473320-000/00?colorDisplayCode=38&sizeDisplayCode=034

what is up with that cuff it looks photo shopped
AI, I fear
Love my pair of orslow two tuck wide trousers - nice fabric, enough room in the thighs, one of my first proxied items from 🗾
I just got a pair of PRL Andrew chinos off eBay that I’m v excited to wear in the fall
I have 3 pairs of spier and mackay chinos, all are their high rise + relaxed fit. Been wearing them really often this summer. https://us.spierandmackay.com/product/sage-relaxed-high-rise-chinos-11459-r-chino

Spier & Mackay
Spier's high rise isn't high enough for me personally, I'd also like to see a little more width on the leg opening/ less taper. But they are pretty good quality for the price.
I've mostly been wearing Andrews off Ebay and they are great for me.
idk if these count as chinos not or but w/e they're a cotton twill and i just got em and i really like em

These wide leg work trousers draw inspiration from 1920’s vintage French workwear. Their extra-wide leg and distinctive pocket details make them contemporary and comfo...

I need to try dbf again
I used to be very into their stuff but then it started feeling too slim for me
lot of it is still slim, lot of it more modern cut
hits and misses etc but the hits are good
i do hatehatehtatheateh the natural horn buttons everything though
fair point on the taper being a little much for sure
There's a pair of uniqlo u ones from like 2023 (?) that I really wish they were still doing with less taper the details were all genuinely great I'd still wear mine if they were wider at the bottom

Every time Uniqlo calls something wide it’s …. Not very wide
I was at a denim shop and a dude called these straight leg, maybe 8in opening, jeans baggy. So maybe they just know their audience.
i think we've passed the threshold of prl andrews/prl phillips on ebay going from mfad meme to actual useful answer for generic high rise wideish fit pleated chinos
barnstormer chinos are incredible especially their shaping via hand iron but they are rather difficult to find inexpensively in the us
amazon essentials sells pretty decent chinos at an affordable price in basically any size you can think of
and they offer pleats
what’s your pref for buttons
it's v much item to item imo
but the lighter colored horn buttons I'm biased against on almost anything that's not tonal
and even in tonal contexts, idk, hard for me to not see them in a very uhhh, tj maxx/ross kenneth cole circa 2008 vibe
might be a very specific thing fo rme
I like this pair from TCB

This is fair there have been a few shirts I’ve passed on because they have the wrong buttons
Usually it’s dark buttons on a white shirt
Chino opinions: Slim and skinny chinos have never looked good, never, not once. If you think you look good in them, wrong.
That’s my only chino opinion.
I really like these dockers’ double pleated chinos, but unfortunately they’ve discontinued them. Got them in place of the J.Crew Giant Fit chinos which I also quite fancy

i wonder why the amazon brand chinos are so affordable

you're about to get the mods to shut down the 13th thread of the day :monkaS:
i brought it into this world and i'll take it out
Why do the mods shut down threads
there is a certain point when a conversation goes from being positive and productive to being a shitshow, and its usually pretty clear. On a server with thousands of people i think they do a fair job of this
but also
Ah okay shoutout to the mods
not relevant to this topic
modmail them if u want to discuss
child labor and a little bit of polyester
minimal overhead
more importantly, amazon chinos are ugly as fuck
I've got.... too many chinos.
This year I've been surprised at just how much I love wearing 50s ('45 pattern) army chinos, funny wear and oil stains and all, something about that heavy cloth (feels heavier than replicas👀) and the cut.
Uniqlo I've passed on since the fit doesn't work for me, Bill's Khakis is inconsistent and haven't returned to their old high rise, Bronson's seem lighter than stated and have QC issues, Dockers/Eddie Bauer/Land's End I like old often MiUS ones less so what they sell now.
But my next favorites are J Crew giant and wide, they're lovely.
(Part of my preferences for pants might be from having hips not much larger than my waist, so I like whatever cinches at the waist and more volume below, some people might want the opposite.)
There is only one good chino and it is vintage 1940’s-1950’s US Army officers chinos
I really like these heavy wide chinos that samurai makes. The fabric is super nice on them

PRL Andrews in all the colors.
wait what are the ones all the way on the left (with the converse) in the picture from the OP
seems like its from this article but i dont see them at least with the same shoes https://www.gq.com/story/the-best-chinos-for-men

"It" being, of course, the sundry guardrails, subreddits, and return-to-office mandates that inform how you get dressed.
They might be the jcrew classic chinos. Although they look a bit wider. Not sure
Yeah they’re not the giant j crew ones but they look a little wider than the classic
Ikiji. I hope they bring them back.

What pair of shoes go well with some chinos? Feel free to ping
