gauss law cant be used cause first its infinite.
second each point on the rod has a small charge and its at different distance from our concerned point P so u will need to take multiple gaussian surfaces for each point and in that consider an infinitesimal fraction of that flux and add (pretty much integration. but this seems tedious to derive..)

If we do x=dtan(theta) toh x^2+d^2 gives d^2sec^2 which is a clean term to work with.
