hey, can someone please make sure that this will work, this is my first time with motors without a pre-made kit:

Hey, im looking for a way to sense current for my electric gocart competition. I need to be able to measure both forwards and reverse current if possible. While using a dual h-bridge L298n dc speed controller, if I only want my motors to spin a certain way (one goes forward and the other goes backwards), can I wire a single IN pin to my mcu and then both EN pins? Then connect everything else to ground?

That way I can control the speed of each motor, but the direction will be fixed and tied together? Trying to learn ways to minimize wires going back to my MCU for smaller, simpler projects that dont need full control.

Then to turn on and off, I'd just set EN to zero with pwm. Would using PWM to turn them on and off cause any problems compared to using the IN pins, or am I overthinking that portion of it?

And then just a generic question, if I want to swap the motor directions after I have everything setup, is there any difference between moving the 5v high over to IN2 instead of IN1 vs just reversing the OUT1 and OUT2 that goes to the motor?

Yeah. Its for a pair of flywheels. Once set, the direction will never change, but I want to be able to control their speed independently.

Ok so then you can get away from the enable pis all together and just use the in1-4 pins. This will lower the power consumption and heat by half

No. Enable pis are for breaking.

Think like your riding a bike or driving a car.

With enable high the breaks are released.
With enable low the breaks are on fully.

So imaging if you was in a car trying to drive and anytime you was NOT activly speeding up the breaks were automatically locked up..

Instead put the jumpers back on the enable pins.
And just move the wires you have to the enable pis to the corect directional high pins leave the grounds tied together

Oh okay. Didnt realize the EN pin worked like that. I figured it was the opposite. If that is the case it probably is worth having some form of input pin control.

Since the direction wont change, and I just need to control on/off with the INs, I wonder then if I can merge them together and have say GPIO pin 10 split and feed both IN1 and IN 4. Then with a single pin I can turn on/off both motors.
