learning the ropes with Linux gaming a lot of stuff works out of the box and that's the best but i am cursed i like weird and obscure video games games with silver or lower on protonDB games not a lot of people care about so i gotta learn to tinker for myself im running into a few random crashes i havent checked yet on some but since starting to run difficult games through Lutris ive started seeing this

"gamescope --expose-wayland -- vkcube" turns out to work. glxgears doesn't need --expose-wayland, most games i play don't need it
but vkcube without gamescope works
also i'm assuming you are using gamescope/scb...

in lutris, it's because you have gamescope enabled for that game

if you want to try gamescope, you might need to use gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f --backend wayland -- %command%gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f --backend wayland -- %command% or gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f --expose-wayland -- %command%gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f --expose-wayland -- %command%

you can also try installing different proton versions for steam using protonplus. you need to restart steam after installing them so that it shows up in steam's compatibility options

Gamescope works normally for me but for some reason, when i use --expose-wayland it gives me a createswapchainHKR error and doesn't work. Is that a known issue or specific to my situation?

Your ssd may be having issues or an improper shutdown during a game update may have done something. I recommend doing a scrub and seeing just how far the corruption goes.
