The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series crashes on startup

I installed The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series from GOG, and the game crashes on startup. The splash screen with the company names like Skybound and Telltale shows up, but before the main menu shows up, the game crashes. Please help.

I tried running the game without Gamemode because there seem to be a lot of "dlopen failed" lines, though I don't know what that means. It did not fix the problem. There is however this line: "0230:err:service:device_notify_proc failed to get event, error 1726", at the end of the log that's colored red. I wonder if that's the issue? Anyone know what this means?

those 2 messages are usually fine, not real problems

the actual issue is happening here:

0354:err:seh:call_seh_handlers invalid frame 0000000015470624 (00000000144B2000-00000000146B0000)
0354:err:seh:NtRaiseException Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception

maybe try some older version of ge-proton? I've read some issues reported with ge-proton 10-26

I've tried running the game with GE-Proton10-25 down to GE-Proton10-20, though I didn't go any further. None of those versions worked. Issue persists, game splash screen shows up, and then crash.
