[solved] mouse click not working in Timberborn from EGS

when starting Timberborn the game loads and the warning that it's in development comes up, I can move the mouse but only pressing the 'enter' key lets me get to the main menu - right or left clicking with the mouse anywhere in either screen doesn't work - it's like the mouse isn't in the game window...
the settings say I'm using the default 'wine 10.20', but I found in the logs a mention of Wine 10.3 so I'm not sure which version is used. please bear in mind that I'm not a linux power user and I just want to play games and I have no idea how to diagnose those issues,
