very roughly compiled... as standard FFB effects, directly from DCS you'll get:
Warbirds:
flight surface pressure depending on speed (stick is limb on ground, pressure builds up during start...)
stall effect (stick rattling)
Cold War Era:
stick center offset (F-5E, A10C, F-14 ...)
stick offset through trimming
autopilot features take full control over the stick (Mig21 ...)
Helicopters:
full force trim (stick offsets and hold in position)
trim button released means forces are applied
trim button depressed means forces are off (for maneuvering)
important, forget about the Gazelle, this module is a fail
modern Jets:
standard stick functionality (spring effect)
some modules also feature additional effects like rolling on ground bounce, airframe shaking etc. (F-14's additional FFB effects are awesome!)
all this can be enriched with telemetry output interpretation feedback into the base, like Walmis mentioned above. basically what simshaker for aviators does for jetseat pads and bass shakers...
Would it be worth having a save function for separate aircraft such as helicopters, warbirds, modern jets, to have each individual settings for how much those force are felt. And all three can be saved to the board after you've test flown and adjusted those settings to your liking in each of those birds? Does that make sense?
for now, DCS has intensity settings for trim forces and effect forces for each module in axis control options. here you can basically set fine nuances for every module.
That's true... I've yet to have played with those. Guess now that we'll have a stronger feedback, we'll have a purpose for using those features in DCS.
Oh, this is something that I've been following for a while back on ED forums. So glad it came to life like this. I just hope that in near future there will be a option to just mount (not necessarily support) VKB grips. I do have MGC Ultimate and it blows Virpil stick completely out of the water. Virpil is way too small for my hand and its switches are too mushy. So if there will be a way to just mount it on Rhino base with me routing the connection to the blackbox separately, it would be great.
I just need to save a bit of cash, dropped 850e on Virpil collective and buttonbox 2 weeks ago...
Ok, so I have a new question: I guess you get to bind a button on your grip to work as a trim release for the Rhino base, right? Will you still be able to bind that same button to the trim release in DCS?
The trim release is all handled by DCS natively. The Rhino doesn't currently have HW trim in firmware (which would be useful if the game doesn't support FFB natively)
another benefit in DCS is that trim release also commands the internal FCS system (in the Ka-50 for instance). it's not like with the Brunner, trimmed from the "outside", which basically only forces the stick to stay in a certain position.
Lent my vkb base to a friend, so nothing from me unfortunately. I modeled an adapter for grips but that likely isn't useful and I can't guarantee accuracy (did fit fine on my gimbal)
