To be honest - I don't know what a PR is. Proposal? One approach would be to assign keywords for each part of a path to the asset. Any develpments going in this direction?

--album option for external libraries
ok - could you (etnoy) or somebody else link 1 or 2 of the most promising third party tools? I had one in mind about 9 month ago but then found the --album option in the Immich CLI. This works exactly how I want it, but the photos from the external directory are copied to the server (what I don't like). Scanning external libraries would just copy the thumbnails/sidecars to the server, correct?

Ok. Thank you for your quick answer. Actually, automatic album generation and indexing folder/filenames of external libraries are my 2 most wanted features for Immich. This would help very much to find photos in well structured external libraries.

Ok- Let's say you have an externel storage of assets in a hierachical folder structre, like /2024/family/cousins/peter.jpg. After importing this external library the photo of peter should be found when searching of either "2024" or "family" or "cousins" or "peter".

This means the fotos should be indexed by there album names. At least this was my home because folders are not indexed...

I put my fotos to folders like family 2024, family 2023, family 2022, etc. and then I would like to go to the plain fotos panel and then search for "family" and the see all my family fotos from all years (but not within the albums)

Ok. And let's say you use the Immich CLI with "immich upload --album --recursive /mnt/..." (what I did and got about 60 albums from my 2024 photos/videos) and the go to your plain photos/video representation and then serch for a certain album name: nothing is found?!

So so 🙂 Interesting! So Immich is NOT intended to present well organized photo/video collections over the internet to your friends (and yourself) and simultaneously offering to search for fotos/videos by file names or folder names?
