Overall System Issues - Bazzite (Ayn Loki Zero)
Steam Big Picture Performance Issues:
Steam starts in Big Picture mode by default with extremely poor performance (laggy UI, slow response) and just overall feels unreasonably slow. You will read below, I had to reinstall 2 times Bazzite. First time, performance was "better" sort of, but then after the reset, everything else worked but now Big Picture is really slow... Switching to Desktop Mode resolves these issues. Is there a way to straight up disable Steam Big Picture from starting up?
I rather just boot to desktop, have steam launch on desktop launch and do that... If i want Big picture mode, i can always "switch back to gaming mode". (
and please no stupid responses like, oh Why exactly are you using a "gaming distro", just install a normal one)
Some more things that I don't understand why its happening:
Default App Installer Bugs Out (Post Install):
• When using the default Bazzite App Installer (used to install tools, add-ons, etc.), installation often fails after attempting to install more than 2 apps at once. EMUDeck only completes ~80% of the installation process before failing. Tried multiple times with the same result. And after the 3rd time I got EMUDeck and DeckyLoader working, but the installer still appeared to be installing. In console it said, a debug message about DeckyLoader installer being placed on the desktop. I ran the tool, and it completed the install, however the Bazzite installer still was under the impression it was "installing".
• When I was trying to install the apps using the Bazzite installer, it was Prompting me for an admin password even though no password was configured during setup. I tried “bazzite” as default password — it was rejected. And then immediately the entire installer borks, and the system locks up.
• This locked me out of the system and required a full OS reset to recover.
Display Issues (External)
Some people on this form are complaining about multiple displays, I'm just trying to get one to work. I plug my capture card in, and initially on the console the screen goes black and there was no way to enable this. After resetting, the display worked temporarily, but issues returned later.
I am having also: Resolution Scaling Limitations:
• Only 1920x1080 (native resolution of the Ayn Loki) is functional.
• Attempting to switch to 1366x768 or 1280x720 results in a glitchy screen which would just go black screen (until reverts) / no signal — would prefer to downscale for performance reasons.
Boot Time is Longer Than Windows:
• This is not the Loki specifically because Cold booting directly into Big Picture mode takes significantly longer than booting into Windows on the same device. We are talking 1 / 1.5 minutes over around 3 minutes. Unsure what’s causing the delay, especially since it’s a fresh install.
I went away from Windows because on a system with a yes... weaker CPU than a Ryzen per-say with only 8 GB of ram, i wanted to install Linux, modify the zram and increase to 16 or 24GB and gain some performance. And get rid of bloat. But i seem to have more bloat on here, than I do Windows. Whats going on?
What I’ve Tried:
• OS Reset (I seriously do not want to reset this OS again), I'm very tempted to return to Windows, but I don't want to.
• Switching to Desktop Mode (performance improves there) DRASTICALLY by the way.
Additionally:
• How to get AnyDesk working on Bazzite (Ayn Loki Zero) Error: Display_server_not_supported
• How to fix or bypass the installer password issue
• Disable Big Picture on boot or improve its performance // again i prefer booting into desktop.
• Getting EMUDeck & DeckyLoader or any app on the Bazzite-Installer to complete install successfully
• Enabling lower resolutions like 1366x768 (preferably 1280x720)
• Improving cold boot performance
