Does DH send chunks outside of server render distance when SS gen is disabled?

, will DH still send chunks outside of the server render distant for the client to generate the LODs, or does the client have to navigate to those chunks manually first?
I'm having performance issues with LOD gen on my server and I don't have the storage right now to pregen them all, but the world is already generated so if DH sent chunks without generating the LOD in my mind that would solve the performance issue....Not rendering undersides of build
