TI had a CH years ago and liked the switches etc. With the extra switches on the side I recon it will cover all a bases for me.

MIt should be pretty easy because it's fbw and then just has a bump of higher force at the bottom of the pitch axis

VWith the Razbam modules the FFB doesn't work....ok the M-2000 is FBW, but the AV8 and Mig-19 doesn't have the moving trim implemented....I hope they won't do the same with the f-15e

VHonestly I don't know about the m-2000...but the stick moving with trim is pretty easy to implement...It took just 1 hour to Duke (IFE) to implement it for the MB339 when I asked him....It just they are lazy or don't listen to the (too few) people in the FFB sticks community
PBeen having that battle for a decade or more.....
PThe Virpil T-50CM2 'Russian style' grip or the VKB Modern Combat Grip Pro/Ultimate which is the same 'Russian style' have heaps of HATS & buttons upto 5 hat switches, 4 push buttons, 2 stage trigger, flip down trigger with button press when 'flicking' up plus the trigger stage & the brake axis lever too. I have the VKB MCGU & it's a beast of a stick, really the only stick you'd need, I don't thnk the Virpil has a z axis twist I know the MCGU has the option for a lockable twist. Also if you're keen on a force sensing base why not check out the Winwing Moveable Force Sensing Stick Base?

BI don’t think the WinWing FSSBs have shipped yet. It will be interesting to see how they stack up against the RealSim model once the comparison reviews start coming in. Thanks for the info about the other sticks.
SDoes the virpil software serve any purpose if a virpil grip is attached to a Rhino> Does the Virpil grip have a microcontoller in it or is everything in the base?
FPer Walmis virpil and thrustmaster grips are fully supported. The controller is in the virpil bases. You only need the software for firmware upgrades of their bases and if you own the control panels as far as I know.
AThe Virpil grip has electronics. I thought the VPForce electronics could use the Virpil and TM grips without a passthrough to their respective stick base, unlike with VKB grips that needs a "blackbox" controller

WGrips are dumb per se. VPC grips work as emulated shift-registers basically. All the magic is done in VPC base and PC software.

ADoes the Rhino software have some software with similar capabilities? E.g. can it be used to make flipping the flip up/down trigger into recognising it being flipped up as opposed to flipped down (and vise versa)?
WRhino has basic button remapping support atm and advanced features best be done with software such as JoystickGremlin
BI plan on using different grips (VFX, TM WH and maybe another) with the Rhino. What is the best way to “tell” DCS that I have swapped grips on the Rhino so that I don’t have to remap manually? Joystick Gremlin? Is there any way to do it without that?
WYou could change Rhino product ID and Name in the configurator, DCS would detect it as a separate device

SOne thing I miss with the virpil firmware is the ability to have a button on the stick 'zoom' the axis. In other words, suppose I am doing aerial refueling. Some aircraft have a 'stick to trimmer' control option. Some dont. By having this set in the firmware, I dont have to worry about button assignments. I can put the stick of any aircraft into 'trimmer mode'. Is this a possible feature that can be added to vp configurator?

Sno. there is a 'zoom axis' option in the virpil configurator. When enabled, you designate a button to act as the 'zoom'. When active, the designated axes then have a 'lower saturation'. For example a full deflection in zoom mode is equivalent to a 1/10 deflection in normal mode(or however much you choose to set)
Sin the virpil software first you select the joystick, then select the big axis button on the left, then look in the center lower section of the page

ROne or the other, if you want an out-of-the-box working solution (BYO grip), buy the Rhino. If you want to fabricate your own parts/design, you can buy the motor kit with different motor options. Kit comes with the controller board and wiring to connect the motors, and USB. No power connector/plug (beyond the mounted terminal block), no fans, no POTs, no emergency switch etc. They’re DIY to your needs.

RIt’s the smallest of the options yes, but if you ask here everyone will say it’s plenty enough and that they tend to turn the forces down quite a bit, even in warbirds yes.
