Most cool passively with their gigantic heatsink motor casings the size of a watermelon. Completely impractical and unnecessary for a flight stick. Even if you want huge forces for some god forsaken reason just use bigger motors/belt ratio.
Simracing wheels need to do extremely high freq effects to simulate the vibrate-y feel of rubber meeting road and sharp effects like slamming curbs or landing from jumps etc with enough overhead to also generate the main forces without clipping so need to be very powerful to be able to do this convincingly, particularly with DD that lacks any mechanical advantage like gearing/belts. Aircraft have much lower freq forces so don't need the brute force simracing req and if you need high forces belt reduction does this with a lot less wasted space and money.
well iirc the f-18 stick was supposed to have something like 15kg max pull force so we're still some ways off even if we forget the sometimes completely freezing controls of some warbirds
Calling it the Meg could be references to multiple things
It would be massive in size due to motor size, if he really wanted for a silly joke edition he could have a shark mouth on the leather cover making it look like the base is trying to eat the stick, and with the increased ffb strength, if ur not careful it could 'bite' you
but do note that they are very barebones and you will have to build and probably design your own system almost from scratch so it could take a long time
I don't know if there are complete designs available somewhere since I don't have the skills or facilities to build one for myself, but afaik you get the electronics, motors and software, but everything else is up to you
Ok thanks that's kind of how I thought it was, but I haven't been following the build stuff that carefully and didn't want to give potentially too rosy a picture of the situation for someone looking to buy a kit or a rhino
It is a great joystick and being ffb makes it easy to configure it how you like it. But I assume elite doesn't benefit much if anything from force feedback from the game
