most of the vpn's either need to be layered or if they have a wireguard config that can be used in the network manager that's probably better

You can most likely do that on deck. There is a decky plugin even for it. Not sure about NordVPN

See this thread. Successfully logging in to NordVPN's linux client has proven difficult since they updated their app awhile back. Me and someone else tried for ages. Client mentioned in this link was our only workaround if you need to regularly switch VPN servers. possible to install Nordvpn?

Gamescope tends to be smoother but there is nothing stopping you from running a game in gamescope on desktop mode and for some games i actually do that due to minor bugs when running without gamescope.

In the end the differences is marginal unless you're resource constrained for the game
