SMy Rhino is finally unboxed now I’m home from working abroad. First impressions, packaging very good, no damage whatsoever, build quality? Absolutely top-notch, especially for such a small team etc, feels fantastic. Now to anxiously await the arrival of a grip etc to use it!!
D100% agree, the boxing was very well done. The unit itself looks fantastic, even got a comment today from a non-simmer that it looks "very expensive, very professional". Not sure if this is really a thing, but the easiest base I have ever connected a grip to. Sometimes it can be a little difficult lining up the holes and pins, it was for my previous bases, but this was stupid easy to do. I am one that has a separate joystick base for every grip, the Rhino is so easy to change out, I will end up getting another grip to use for the A-10/F-4/Warbirds.
SI know I won't be going through my Rhino purchase because I elected to do the DIY route.

BWould likely want bracing to the floor anyway, put some force on it during use and it will cause a lot of force to planted onto that table top.
If it had been a 2" hardwood bench top, fine.
But that looks like 10mm and with that I wouldn't be surprised if it didnt rip a hole in your desk.

SIt’ll do for now. This is a temp setup as I’m mid way through a move to Germany. In Germany I’ll be building a dedicated 80:20 rig for this so i can use the extension etc too

HThe subtle things are really what make FFB special. In Heatblur modules, it's usually wing stall that grabs you. Not gaudy telemetry effects.
BI don't fly the F14, but the P-51D... firing up that engine and feeling the stick shake and come to life... it's a game changer.
SJust instantly feeling CONNECTED to the plane, like it didnt just feel like a spring. And then the wing buffet in a turn and being able to actually turn without excessive G because i can feel where the limits for the plane are
BTo me the biggest "aha" was trim.
With a spring stick you pull, guess at trim, release a little, guess again and release a little repeat.
With this you just put the stick where it needs be, trim. It stops fighting and the pressure just eases up, keep the stick where it's needed and when your trimmed it stays there.
No need for guessing, just one move and done.

TI have a clutch/spingless base for my stick, and the autohover modes with the apache are a nightmare compared to a normal spring with trimming ... how does the VPForce handle it?
RHave you tried spins from high altitude?
FWhen you hold trim release, there are no spring forces acting on the stick, and when you release the trim release button that position of the stick becomes the new spring center. This helps immensely with flying as you can use the stick as if it is springless when maneuvering but trim and do something else when flying long distances.
FAttitude trim also allows me to get a 100% stable hover within max 1 minute of getting lower than 20kts airspeed, and just a few seconds when in the 10kts range
FAdmittedly I am comparing a ~40cm extension to vkb gladiator so your improvements may vary

FNote here that I made my own system with max motors, but you should get the same force with between 10 and 20cm additional extension, keep in mind the rhino feels like it has 10cm built in
BI don't feel the need for an extension, just wish it was 10cm closer
FSounds like you need Virpil z extension or 3d print
FBenefit of my insane extension is it wraps around my chair so I don't need a cut out

Twhen it's 're-centred' as it were when you force trim, is there a way to have a small deadzone around the 'new' centre? I've found that when I force trim with my clutch-nospring Virpil CM3 base, the autohover mode on the apache just doesnt work. I think there are minute movements still being detected and it cant cancel them out or something
Fit has a small motor deadzone (the axis is fully functional, the spring force is just very light) out of the box, which is adjustable
FI will probably increase the force a little bit myself but with the rhino it might be different
