Given the max row size of 1MB, is there a good pattern for breaking a large blob or JSON string across multiple rows if larger than 1MB? Reconfiguring all my statements to handle this (rare) situation seems painful. Best to just fail/reject in that case?

How large are your blobs? You could also write to R2 and reference from D1 - especially for large large blobs / multi MB blobs. No different from an image or binary data in that way.

Yeah the issue is I guess it's technically unbounded. Vast majority are fairly small, but some object types can be very big. I have a mechanism for storing large data in R2 with a reference for other columns so I think that is probably the best solution here too. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some other pattern to take advantage of that would preserve JSON queryability.

You could always split across multiple rows - you’ll eat some query and insert complexity but you can still use JSON functions across rows.

I can't get this query to run fast at all. Am I overlooking somemthing silly (an index)? The live endpoint won't run faster than 300ms

did the migrations script break for anyone? I got a github action that always runs

but since my last commit ~30 mins ago, it started applying them all over again (not just the new ones)

It is, at least right now, a single threaded Durable Object so if you slam it too hard with writes you can kill it. It performs quite well though, idk what the upper limit would be, and it would depend on other factors too like what exactly you're writing

No corruption. From what I've seen, it just gets really slow/sometimes becomes overloaded and stops working for "a bit" until it fixes itself/writes slow down.

What about reads. How many per second can it handle? About 20k people can open our app on a push notification. To that’s 20k queries in about 2-3 minutes.

a single DO instance can do around 1k requests per second, for complicated queries i've seen it drop as low as 400 requests per second - if in doubt, use the cache api where possible

an index is only useful if you're looking for a specific record/types of records.

a good rule of thumb is, if you're using a WHERE clause on anything other than the PRIMARY KEY on a query that runs often, it might be worth indexing it

if you had a column like

, you could add an index for that column, and reduce your rows read when querying
