at least for desktop use it’s a night and day difference. Letting the iGPU handle desktop compositing has a lot of benefits. I’d say it works pretty similar to my Rog Ally in terms of desktop experience
So switching to X11 has a downside of not being able to disable the touchscreen, on Wayland we have the nice toggle in the UI. Typically in X11 I'll update /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf and set the ignore option on the touchscreen
I also have it in my desktop rig, a hand-me-down. Have the money to replace it but on principle I refuse to change it, the games I play work on it normally, don't really want to throw away stuff that works adequately for me
