Is it just plug and play ?
How much feedback does it give you as I’m going to use mine for landing practice as I’m rough when I’m with the instructor, not getting enough air time because they are that busy.

the built in FFB for the apache is pretty good, you do have to make sure you setup the FFB options in DCS scorrectly, but other than that, should be very solid. the TelemFFB app will add some additional fun effects as well

yeah, I pretty much just decreased the effects in general, used the default TelemFFB profiles and went with it.

Actually just have set VPForce configurator software and FFB settings in DCS. And it feels pretty nice. Next step is configure TelemFFB.

but its mostly going to dcs settings when not in a module, then to apache settings and there should be ffb or trim settings there

Certainly compared to the earlier versions of the virpil configurator.

Hit the wrong button at the wrong time and you'd brick the firmware.
Luckily you could always get it booted back into flash mode so you could start from scratch.

The quite old (2016-17 days) and no longer used virpil configurator.
The rhino software is rather straight forward and clear.

Youll need the winwing adapter to use the grip and without the base afaik you cant configure anything in the winwing software as it wont recognize it but you will be able to use the default settings

I use the Winwing F16EX on a DIY Rhino. You need walmis WW adapter, everything else works out of the box. Only exception is the vibrating motor in the F16EX but with the Rhino you have much better options to get vibrations.

I don't think that there is any need to use the winwing SW (which would require the WW base) because the Rhino SW ist pretty configurable by itself.

I’m build a Rhino as my base and buying a nice stick.

I don’t want to waste money on a stick base I won’t need/use so I’d prefer to just buy the sticks.

I also plan to use a “shift register” but I assume you only need that with the DIY sticks?

Oh well as an international builder I’d rather buy it and have it than need it and have to wait (and pay) for shipping.

So this is great if I can just get a decent stick and ignore buying those expensive bases like the cm3 or whatever

There are a few things about f-16ex on rhino: no Firmware Updates, no rumble function and 2 of the virtual buttons on the secondary trigger wont work (btn41 and 42) but ive setup joystick gremlin to compensate for those

Or for some planes that have covers on switches i bind the open state of those covers to those so when im using the plane normally ill open them for easier use

Yeah I know I’m sort of wired funny that way but what I mean is I don’t want an expensive paperweight after building the Rhino so unless I need it I’d prefer not to buy it.

Do you guys prefer to use them so you can still use the set up software on the sticks? Or can I just get away without it.

Whatever setup (software configuration to the base+stick) you do will be specific to the base. Once you change bases, you’ll lose all of those settings. Nothing is saved to the stick alone. So if you’re only going to use the Rhino as your base then don’t buy the paper weight.

I don't own the aircraft so I can't speak to any potential feature compatibility issues (i.e. due to non standard telemetry for example) , but from a TelemFFB perspective, there's nothing special about that aircraft. It will be treated as any other aircraft you create a profile for so all the same effects would be supported as in any other MSFS aircraft.
