I don't see the harm in it, mutter is built for gnome, kwin is built for kde, they just do their own path. When you're figuring out how to go forwards with things at a fork in the road sometimes you take a gamble and sometimes it works for everyone, sometimes it works primarily for you and sometimes it just doesn't work at all
