I think that is being a bit overblown - if it's really being run in-device(and as per the thread, it has to be because of things like screenshotting banking data) and you can disable it, it's just another OS convenience feature. Not too dissimilar to recent files or frequently used programs.

If anything, Windows 10's Timeline feature(which was discontinued in 2021) was worse, as that was cloud synced. Though it didn't work by taking screenshots.

The thing is we're all familiar with Microsoft's heavy-handed and disrespectful approach to "user choice". The latest new hotness that internal management is trying to boost metrics for, whatever it is, will see the "user choice" frequently overridden with system updates, or outright ignored entirely after a few updates in which everyone who was supposed to be using the new hotness actually disabled it. How many times has MS had to get beaten over the head with the Antitrust stick for their behavior around the default web browser, and yet they're still doing that shit?

Any trust or goodwill MS had with many of their most expert users is gone. People stay on Windows now because they actually need to, think they need to, don't want to learn a new OS, or don't have the basic level of expertise to install it themselves.

Edit: When digging around in distrobox's issues, I found an old issue detailing similar symptoms, but with docker as the container engine: https://github.com/89luca89/distrobox/issues/399

I wasn't able to find any related issues in bazzites issue list.

The issue might be quite a bit bigger. Some programs (er ex. banking sites) have their local executables encrypted but Recall effectively circumvents it. Even more, it gives context to actions, and even access to otherwise encrypted files by effectively OCRing what's on screen. From the initial reports I don't have much confidence they'll do it right off the bat and we may see big consequences because of that

I really dont get how MS gets away with this stuff when companies can be so secretive. I work in pharma and we had to come up with a code system to refer to our clients cause some of them didnt like that we had their names on binders and a competitor might see that during an audit. But we'll keep using windows even if its phoning home information and might be recording your whole desktop somewhere
